Holset HX40 help
I need the v band downpipe flange and clamp for a holset hx40. Does anyone have an idea where I can locate one?
|
Re: Holset HX40 help (Overblown-Teg)
how big is it?? check atpturbo.com or burnsstainless, they have all sorts of vbands
|
Re: Holset HX40 help (JDogg)
Its an odd size. its a little too big for the 3" flange.. The OD of the flange is 4". These turbos are floating around used but I have yet to see the downpipe parts

Re: Holset HX40 help (Overblown-Teg)
I bet a Diesel engine downpipe and Vband may work. The Cummins engines use Holset turbos. Give me an Vband OD and an ID (maybe some pics) and I can look at some Cummins turbos once I get back into the states

Re: Holset HX40 help (Overblown-Teg)
I tried for the longest time to find a v-band flange and clamp for my HX35. I just gave up and welded a peice of 3" exhuast pipe to it. The holset's use some form of one-off v-band that only holsets are compatible with. I found out that just about the only place you're gonna be able to find one if off of a junk vehicle that it came on, or ordering it from a Holset dealer. You may be able to get something from one of the aftermarket diesel truck shops, online or otherwise.

your gonna have to go to a holset dealer.
its probably metric! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif |
Re: (pete98m3)
Last night I tried calling Banks Turbo, They are one of the main manufactures of diesel exhaust. Turns out the whole downpipe is made on one machine and is all CNC so there is no way to make just the stub I need. I have tried other places also. I don't want a whole downpipe because of the cost.
The turbo is off a dodge truck, I can't find any in junk yards here though. |

Re: (JDogg)
Point is to keep this on the cheap.. I don't want a $300 downpipe just to hack it all up and only use one little part.. Are there any truck performance shops down by you guys in NC? A 3" pipe fits in pretty well, the next step is to just weld the bitch in. I'm fed up with it.
Maybe I'll see if bmc or exploited can just make me a flange instead of the v band thing. |
Re: (Overblown-Teg)
Homie, just do what I did. Go to JCwhitney, Summitracing, or where ever. Buy the tightest radius 3" OD U-bend you can find. Whack it into a 90 degree, weld that bitch on. You know have a 3" downpipe

Re: (Speed PHreak)
haha. That is what I am ready to do.
How many times have you had to weld that manifold? I'm thinking none right? |
Re: (Overblown-Teg)
None ATM, I don't have a retarded exhaust hanging from it either. Everyone told me I was gonna have to weld my DRAG III mani when I got that kit back in the day. Never had too, hope my luck runs the same with this one.

Re: (Speed PHreak)
I think you will be fine.. You have your head on straight..

Re: (Overblown-Teg)
talk to these guys at proturbokits.com they have the correct vband for your application
|
You might want to add a little piece of bracing... Mine broke from the weight of the dump tube. Bracing the dump tube better would work too, but...

Re: (paul vang)
Thanks Paul,
I contacted airflow, they need an engine number and stuff, I'll see if they can do anything. I'll also check into this detroit place.. If anyone can come up with a shop local to them that does trucks please let me know. We literally have zero truck shops here. Well there is one but he didn't even know what a v band was.. |
Diesel Injection Service - ask for Jaymez (he's racer-friendly) They sell a shit ton of Holsets...

Can you get me a part number off of that turbo for a little more assurance? |
Re: (paul vang)

FYI, for someone that may stumble on this thread searching around later.......... The HX35W and HY35W come on the ISC Cummins (4 valve head) in the Dodge pickups....the HX40W turbos come on the IBS Cummins (2 valve head) that come in medium duty trucks. Obviously the HX40 is a much larger turbo for a larger displacement engine. They do have the same divided T3 size turbine inlet flange. But the downpipe flanges are different sizes. This could be dependent on how large the turbine a/r size is....but I doubt it. side by side - Vband side (HX35 on left) http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...c/f6e9506f.jpg side by side - turbo side (HX35 on left) http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...5/f6e95075.jpg stacked on top (HX35 on top/HX40 on bottom) http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...f/f6e95077.jpg I ran into needing a DP flange for the HX35 recently....and got ahold of these. I made my own flange w/o the Vband out of 1/2" 304SS Modified by BROOD at 6:22 AM 9/23/2004 |
Re: (BROOD)
FYI, HX30 seems to have the same v-band exit as HX35.
Pikas, Todd... Pikas has a good line on the Holsets... nice to see others do, too https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif |
Re: (J. Davis)
Interesting...does the HX30 flange use a Vband outlet with an ID of nearly 2.5" like the HX35 flange I have?
