HKS BOV Fluttering: No Pshhhh
Hey my HKS BOV flutters instead of making the PSHHH sound. I can loosen the screw all the way and it still remains sealed. At 7 PSI some say that's normal, but when I read other posts of people saying that theirs stays open all the time I don't know what to believe.
Questions:
Is the fluttering a good sound...Is it safe...or is does it mean something else?
Is there a way to adjust it since my adjusting screw is all the way out, such as opening it up and clipping the spring.
Or should I just set it and forget it?

What source do you have the BOV hooked to? If you stand outside the bay and rev the car, can you hear the fluttering coming from the intake?
Does it flutter even at full boost? It should not.

make sure the vacuum line didn't pop off. mine sounds like that if the line popped off.
kinda like a sssshhhh-sshhhh-ssshhh-ssshhh untill theres no more pressure.
open ur hood and rev it by the throttle cable, u should beable to feel it blow off a lil.

If the BOV is brand spankin new...you need to let it break in....
My cousin has one and it made a fluttering sound for about a month and then went to the PSH sound...
Just make sure that its hooked up to a strong vacuumm source and you should be fine.

How is your wastegate hooked up? Any boost controller? Mine fluttered when I directly hooked the wastegate into the vacuum source. When I went to a manual boost controller, it made a stronger "pshh" sound. My guess is the mbc better seals the wg, and therefore the vacuum lines overall.

yea it could be compressor surge. Although some BOV's do flutter on part throttle, like my tial, but i dont know much about the HKS, but you should realy make sure its not your turbo surging.

same here. At about 1-2 pounds i get a flutter. At 7 pounds i get PSSSSHHH. This in on a turbo D16.

i'm not 100% on the hks but if you are hearing a flutter on a tial at a low boost that is compressor surge. the tial is such a strong bov it really should not be used on a low boost car.

More boost wont make a difference, and the spring may not hold boost.
BOV's operate off vacuum, if they do not have enough of it, they will not work correctly.

if you think about it a bov is activated by boost pushing on the valve and the valve opening.the vacuum is not sucking the valve open it is the lack of boost on that side of the valve causing it to open.the only way it will flutter is under boost, if the spring is weak, or there is not enough boost on that side. when you let off there is only vacuum on that side and boost on the other side. if it was really fluttering than your boost would have to be going up and down(opening and closing the bov, not likely).
