Higher RPM feels like im hitting a brick wall???
just as my turbo is fully spooled and i hit full boost, right around 5000 rpm i will like i hit a brick wall. it doesnt feel like it pulls anymore and sounds like im just revving.
ill give you some specs that i think are important i guess.
ngkbkr7 gapped .028
hondata 2b
msd 6al coil and cap
550 cc
walbro fuel pump
maxrev kit

sounds like it needs tuned.</TD></TR></TABLE>
i had it tuned, while tuning, it was missfiring up top. so tuner told me to get msd. i did but havnt gone to retune yet. but could that be the resason? i would expect it to pull even without tunign.

You don't need the MSD for that power level, if your ignition is misfiring, then there is a problem within the system, try and get that fixed first.

Re: (z6)
If it sounds like it's just revving and not going any faster, particularly at higher RPM, it could be 2 things:
1: Clutch
2: Valve float
If it were a misfire, you'd hear it backfiring and sputtering/knocking and it certainly wouldn't rev any higher.

well, this is the wierd thing.
when i was tuning (when the missfire occured) my tuner told me i was missfireing up top. but he did do a pull and it registered in at 291 whp. he did another pull, this time power dropped big time and there were empty spots in the graph (like if soemone erased little bits and pieces of my hp/tq curve up top)
do you still thik it could be cluthc or valve float?

when we dynoed we ran no filter b/c i didnt have one yet.
since then i have added a filter. would this affect the a/f
to the point to where im running rich?

Hm, that's interesting. That sounds like a misfire type of symptom, but in order for the car to rev any higher, it would have to be making power. If it misfired, it wouldn't make power, therefore wouldn't rev, which is what's got me. Does it still rev at its normal speed or is it hesitant?

Is there a Catalytic coverter on the car? A buddy of mine had just a stock engined Si with nitrous on it, later we tpook the nitrous off. Well ll of a sudden when he hit VTCE it woul dbe the same, it woul dget slower, his cat was clogged to hell. Put a test pipe on it and BAM fixed the problem. Just an idea to check. Good luck.

it revs normal, no hesitation at all. the car does go faster, but the pull is not there.

isnt the recommended gap around .028-.032?
i had it at .032 before the msd install and it did the same thing.
i then gaped to .028 (without msd) same thing.
now after msd, same thing.

no, i am running a test pipe, no cat.

Re: (VDoP-B18C1)
what kind of motor is it? how many miles? do you have a aftermarket clutch? if your going up to 5k and it just sounds like its revving...could your clutch be ****? one thing i would also do is if you have a vtec motor, take off the solinoid from the head and look at the screen in the gasket and check for metal particles.

It sounds like it's blowing out one cylinder, if it really is a spark problem. Based on the post creator's info, it still sounds like valve float, or the engine is just flat out torqueless. Although the B16 is no torque beast, I'm still gonna point my finger at valve float.

b18c1, only like 2000 miles since my rebuild. yes i have an ACT clutch.
what exactly is valve float guys?
not sure if this means anything, but cruising egts at say 60mph is about 650C and 80mph cruising on highway is about 800C

Re: (VDoP-B18C1)
check where your boost cut is set at. i had the same problem, while in WOT around 5000-5500 my car just stop like a rev cut. While i was tuning my tuner told me that my base map had a boost cut.

would this not show up on boost guage? like if there was say a boost cut at
5000 rpm would the boost gauge not drop straight to 0 or would it still be reading
what the boost is set at?

Re: (VDoP-B18C1)
i dont think it shows up on your gauge. i found out about the boost cut when my tuner pointed out to me. i dont know how boost cut work exactly so i cant answer your question. try lowering your boost on your wastegate or using your boost controller.

Re: (g5r)
I got it. I thought about it till my brain started to bleed, then thought about it some more. The solution - valve seat. One or more of your valves aren't seating properly enough to contain that level of boost. The boost at the manifold will remain constant and the car won't stutter, but you'll still rev exactly the same, just not make any power because you're pissing boost out the exhaust.
Ahh. Finally. That's my final answer, Regis.

Sounds about rite. Happend to me and the car acted the same way. Does your cel come on?
