High oil pressure at idle...blue smoke....
when my car is cold i idle at 1500rpm...at this time I have lots of blue smoke and my oil pressure is around 55psi. The oil pressure shoots up as soon as I start the car.
At first I thought it was my return line no draining correctly, so i changed the fittings and still no dice...oil burning somewhere...i just don't know where
My oil pressure gauge is "t" at the firewall w/ one line comming from the oil pressure sender and the other going to the turbo.
What's the deal?

I don't have an oil pressure guage so I'm not sure...but I know when the oil is cold the pressure will be higher. I don't know if that range is normal though, someone else hopefully will.

Re: High oil pressure at idle...blue smoke.... (sporkcrx)
As the RPM's go down the oil pressurr goes down....at 1000 rpm oil pressure is around 40psi.
I just did an compression test:
210 210 200 200
So the motor is not burning oil.
I'm starting to think it's my turbo.
I'm going to pull my downpipe off and see if the seals are gone. Hopefully not, considoring it's a brand new turbo w/ about 10 miles on it

Well, I just pulled the downpipe off and there was oil and oil in the turbine....that is what was burning. So i guess it's the seals on my turbo???
It is brand new, maybe at the most 10 miles on it...how?

Heres what i think....
My return line might not be returning oil fast enough back inot the pan. Thus causing oil to "backup" inside the center section, causing the hihg oil pressure and pushing oil out of the seals...how does this sound? I'm gonna change my return line tomorrow, and hopefully it will work.
What do you think?

Re: High oil pressure at idle...blue smoke....
Sounds like a oil drain problem....they drain only by gravity.
They WILL leak oil out the intake side of the turbo if they dont drain correctly(even with good seals) This can also happen due to crankcase ventilation issues.
What size oil drain do you have dont go any smaller than -10an.
Also my oil pressure got high at idle like 55 also ever since i put the turbo on...this was when i had a shitty rigged up oil return....i havent started the car since i put the -10an return on it. I will keep you posted
The blue smoke can be a symptom of the oil built up in the turbo blowing out the exhaust.
See if the blue smoke goes away after it warms up, if thats the case, good chance its bad valve seals/guides

I am running -10 an line.
I'm going to try a new return line setup tomorrow. Hopefully should fix it.

No idea never noticed...but i would imagine oil pressure is oil pressure int eh turbo the exh seal is prolly just as strong as the intake...i would imagine it would leak both....just tangible on the intake side

Re: High oil pressure at idle...blue smoke.... (CzanSOHC)
Yep, same thing happened to me. Hopefully your seals are not dead because of it...mine got killed. Not bad, but the car smoked a little from time to time, usually when I was taking off from a dead stop, I guess because of the pressure building up and then increasing suddenly.
Anyway, swap it out with a -3, easy fix. If possible don't drive it until you swap the lines.

Re: High oil pressure at idle...blue smoke.... (Hatchblack)
I am goig to swap it out to a -3 an ASAP. I am also going to change my return line too. Hopefully my seals are still good, I have only driven the car 2 times for about 10 mins and have let it idle for about 30 or so...
