Default Hi Flow Cat and Power Loss.

I was curious, but I put a high flow cat on my setup, what is the typical power loss with one of these? Also if I did put in a test pipe would my Thermal Turbo muffler sound raspy?

Should I just replace it with a 3" resonator then?

Replace it with one of these badboys!

The build quality on it is absolutly amazing....for a testpipe. Mine came polished. I havent thrown it on yet though. Im sure it will not be raspy like a normal testpipe.

How would it not be raspy?

it looks like it might be a resonator that replaces the cat?

i've heard thermal systems without cat. convertors and they sound like ****, IMO. like a pep boys setup or something. i'm running a catco with my thermal, and i'm willing to sacrifice a couple horsepower so my car doesnt sound like ***. carsound and catco cats = no cat. on thermal =

Maybe you just heard a shitty car.

I didn't notice much of a difference as far as sound went, when I removed my 3" carsound cat on my 3" Thermal.

It did get quite a bit louder in the higher RPM's obviously. But same tone.

But it sounds nothing like "****" or a pep boys set up.

Don't let the he said she said **** fool you. Thermals do NOT sound raspy without a cat.

As far as power. With the 3" Thermal and 3" Cat and stock GSR Intake Manifold. I made 270ish to the wheels at 12 psi.

With the 3" Thermal, no CAT, Skunk2 Manifold I made 346 to the wheels. At the SAME boost levels(much much more torque as well). I'm sure most of the gain was contributed to the Intake Manifold, but it's safe to assume maybe 15-20 hp was gained with just removing the cat.

And at higher boost levels I'm sure the difference would be even more noticable.

But I'm considering re-installing the cat, since it doesn't exactly go hand in hand with my Green Party values.

yea, thats entirely possible. the one thermal exhaust i heard w/ o a cat. was a 99EX supercharged, 3" thermal, and it sounded "farty". maybe this wasnt because of the lack of a cat. convertor, but thats the impression i got. if your thermal sounds good without at cat then, i suppose it just depends on the entire setup... maybe not?

Thought we were talking about a turbo set up here. But yeah, I could understand completely how a supercharged set up might sound a bit shitty. Since it's runner off the header rather than out of the turbo, it might give the infamous Raspy NA sound.

I have a 3 inch exhaust with a magnaflow muffler and I gutted my cat and somehow its quieter than when it had the cat! I would say just try it and see..sometimes things work out good.

look under T1R or Type One Racing section and find it. Its a resonated testpipe.

Raspy sounding exhausts are usually due to people gutting out the cat.

You made 80 hp from a gutted cat and skunk2 I.M.??? Holy ****!!!! Is that all that you changed?

Anyways, I couldn't find the price on those resonated test pipes. How much are they?

We removed the CAT and replaced it with a 2.5" test pipe. And changed out the Intake Manifold.

Yeah, that's all I changed. Shows how restrictive the stock GSR Intake Manifold is.

Hmm, is that 3 inch in and 3 inch out? As of now there is nowhere in the website to purchase this, I would easily get one if I could find it.

a test pipe inplace of the cat on a turbo honda doenst make it sound shitty. now on the other hand, a na/ or supercharged will sound very raspy.

i had a turbo on my eg hatch, with a 3 inch test pipe and thermal 3inch it wasnt raspy at all. my other friends also had similar setups which did not sound raspy either. the turbo takes the "rasp" away from honda's.
