hey guys has anyone did custom HEAD STUDS before
i need to find out what a good pitch and height to go with it. I think ARP can custome make some i was thinking 1/2*20 std size head studs. I think this way the head wont lift under extreme boost conditions.

sounds like a good size to me... id go with a higher pitch... i mean as in the one u have... i dont think lower pitches will hold as well

I agree. Now i got to figure a way to get it custom made. You pretty good inc custom making some things why dont you build some ... I ll be happy then

yeah they can do it or better said scavenge the size you need from another application, you will have to send your head out to have the new studs tapped for the head, this on its own can lead to warpage, head will disintegrate before it lifts if you use "normal" arp's and O ring the deck and block -------have you already tried goofing around with that 5bar map sensor, still using injectors for fuel or just plain gardening hose?????????consider the Dart block, you can have them machine the 1/2 bolt diameter for you, consider helicoil or simliar insers as aluminum will not hold that

i know the guys at AEBS use a differnt head stud compared to the std arp. Its there own creation and i heard it just hold a hell of lot strong than the aRP

just sounds dangerous, have you already lost a head to failing/streching studs?
grade 8 fasteners have about the same tensile and elongation as ARP studs, anything harder could lead to damage by not being as forgiving - just an opinion.
you could drill your block to just over recieving bolt size, tap and helicoil, then use a receiving bolt (bolt with bolt hole through middle with no head of larger dia. than stock arp's) then put head on and use short fat bolt to go thru head to receiving bolt
block head bolt

hope you understand this pic
kinda like a coilover whereas the perch is actually much longer and threaded into the block, and the shock body screws into the block thrugh the head.

interesting technolgoy if you ask me never seen it done that way. But i might look into that. The issue i have is like 35pounds or so the head slighly strechs there by burning excess coolant mixing with the oil not always but just at extreme boost levels.

B18B believe it or not I have a very simple method for Oringing water pasages, it is soo easy and you can still use a 0.30 copper gasket, only do it on the head side, there is plenty of rooom. I know a guy here with a BBC mountain motor and he O-ringed everything, i was like f**k but the thing is bulletproof.
P.S> the theory behind my last I dea is the same if you are familiar with a "lag Bolt"

If you say it is a problem just before max PSI consider that it is a max cylinder pressure problem and not hardware ( I know who you are so would not dare to say that tuning is off) but if you just aimed for 12 degrees BTDC or further back a little timing to reduce cylinder pressure it may stop lifting, the loss in power should be minimal.
