Help...need transmission advice for turbo build!!!
I am currently working on a complete turbo build with a $10k budget. Basically I have a fully built motor ($3000) and complete turbo kit with Precision SC61 ($3000). And I have $4000 left to spend on trans, ecu and tuning, clutch, and other miscellaneous odds and ends.
Now I don't know what to do with my trans and need some advice!!! The trans currently has 85k miles and is not grinding whatsoever, and I definitely want to add LSD, get a street/race clutch to hold 400hp, and strengthen or improve it any way I can.
So I spoke to this guy Charlie at http://www.topsetup.net and he said he would replace the bearing and seals, add Quaife LSD, and install 3/4/5 carbon synchros for $1500. The turnaround time is 1 week and I'm sure he will offer some type of warranty on his labor.
I also spoke with Gear Speed (http://www.gearspeedinc.com) and they will do a Type II service for $2300. This includes a complete rebuild with a Quiafe LSD, 3/4/5 carbon synchros, and cleaned & polished case. And the turnaround time is 3 weeks. This service also comes with a 2 year warranty.
So what would you guys suggest or recommend I do for the trans???
Also, what clutch would you suggest??? I've looked at several options...ACT Xtreme 6-puck, Clutchmasters FX300, or FX400 6-puck. Like I said, I would like to get a street/race disc, something that isn't going to be difficult to cruise around in.
Thanks in advance!
