help on my turbo build, sleeved 2.0 gsr
Alright guys as the title states, I need some help. I'm currently trying to figure out what are the best cams, turbo, exhaust manifold, spark plugs, axles and transmission for my setup.
I don't have crazy money to spend like a lot of people on here so this will be a somewhat of a budget build, looking to spend about $800 each on a turbo and manifold.(if that gives an idea of my budget)
Been doing some research and it seems like a top mount would be ideal, along with skunk2 pro 1 cams. But let me know if you think something else would be better.
If you have any suggestions on what to change on what I currently have then just let me know please. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
(And if this thread is in the wrong location then I apologize.)
Okay let me start off with my current motor setup:
Gsr block
Benson sleeves 2.0
Aries piston 9:1
Crowed rods
Firriza valve train
Over size valve
Rev hard intake manifold (elbrock style)
72 mm tb port match to manifold
1000cc ID injectors
And let me just finish with my hp goals.. I plan to hit between 500-600 hp, if possible maybe even more.
I do have intentions of going turbo/nitrous if you think that's a smart idea. The car will be mainly a track car but will see its occasional street race.
So like I said, any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks fellas.

Re: help on my turbo build, sleeved 2.0 gsr
I got the motor from a good friend of mine and it already came with the 9:1 compression ratio, I have been doing research and realize 10:1 would of been better

And I don't have the link to the thread anymore but they suggested the top mount would be better vs a ramhorn, but that's why i would like suggestions and advice, what manifold do you recommend ?

Yes. the Full-Race test. Based upon the purpose that it seems like you're looking for, that's the last type you want to have. Here's an easy counter to that little comparison.

There are Mini-Equal lengths, Mini-rams and Kooks "Ramhorns", that will do a lot better than those damned things.

Re: help on my turbo build, sleeved 2.0 gsr
Thanks for that very helpful link! But why do you say that should be the last kind I want? Is it cause of the spool factor? What about the hp factor? Can a ramhorn hit 600hp? And last question, do you know any companies that have the particular style manifold you're talking about? Thanks again buddy

Hey Steve, you can hit 600 with a ramhorn no problem. from the picture below you can see my ram horn setup that I was using. This was a t3 ramhorn utilizing a Comp 62mm turbo that put down 793 whp a couple weeks ago. I myself am now going with a t4 top mount to really push my Comp turbo but you will be fine with a good ramhorn. Now, not to make this a FS thread or anything but I am selling the manifold and dump tube if you are still looking to get something and you can PM me if you have any questions.
Oh wow that's amazing power man, do you happen to have a dyno sheet and/or video of the tune? I don't wanna make an impulse buy so imma wait a little bit before I start buying parts, wanna get as much information before I pull the trigger but I will definitely keep that in mind thanks! I'll pm you with details and price on the manifold if I decide on going that way, but just so I know, what brand is it?.. but now that you bring up turbos, what do you think would be a good turbo for my setup? I was thinking of a gt35r but again I want to get different opinions

Came to a decision on the turbo, will be going with this one,
Garrett T04Z / T04R Twin Scroll T67 Turbo - Full-Race.com
If anyone has any answers to my questions or any tips/insight on what I should do then please let me know, thanks.

Re: help on my turbo build, sleeved 2.0 gsr
That's honestly a bit unnecessarily large for what you need, especially if this is going to be a street car. You can do that with good 60lbs/min-65lbs/min options in a T3 open flange setup. The volutes on those T4 housings just cause responsiveness issues and such..
But you're smart to use the Borg-Warner & Garrett-based solutions at least

Re: help on my turbo build, sleeved 2.0 gsr
that turbo is definitely overkill. what's wrong with a new gtx30 or 35r if you wanna go that route. I have a garret gt3076r turbo on my itr build and it has a pretty quick spool time and makes power all the way up my 9000rpm. id personally just run a newer gtx turbo and run e85. would be a lot better if its going to be street driven from time to time

Re: help on my turbo build, sleeved 2.0 gsr
It'll mostly be a track car with the occasional street use from here to there, I was planning on using e85 but like everything else, I was open to others opinions.. okay so you guys think it'll be better if I run a gt35r? I'll change it if you guys think it's worth it, what will get me my best bang for my buck with my setup? And I haven't heard anything bad about running the pro1s so I think imma go with those cams, gonna pick em up soon. Thanks again to everyone that's helped so far, greatly appreciated!
Side note: just wanted to remind everyone that I did have intentions of going turbo/nitrous, so I'm not sure if it changes things on which turbo would be better, or if I should just stick to not using nitrous.
