HELP! I'm thinking of selling my AEM EMS!
Okay...i've been speaking to Rocketlude...some of you may know him...he has a 553WHP Prelude. Anyways...he's been talking to me about the standalone unit Autronic. It sounds REALLY good too! for those of you that aren't familiar with it...check the website out.
http://www.turbofast.com.au/autronic/autronic.html
I have several friends here with MR2's that are using this unit. it's generally referred to as a cheaper Motec.
What appeals to me the most is the AUTOTUNE option...guys check it out and let me know what you think =P
reasons holding me back from AEM EMS are that:
1) it's brand spanking new
2) i hear it's a bit buggy and they keep releasing new firmware
3) no one around my area knows how to tune it
Anyways...any advice would be appreciated...

Keep the AEM.
The Autotune is useless. Anyone with a thimble full of knowledge can tune your car in a few hours on the street with a datalog as well as the Autotune function on the Autronic. The Autotune function is not a replacement for proper dyno tuning and I know you're looking for the power more than just getting the engine to run.
The Autronic is nice enough. It's very capable and has alot of nice features. I think you're going to have to mount your own trigger wheel. I'm not sure if it supports the stock trigger setup. I know it doesn't have a built in reluctor adapter so if you're somehow able to use the stock trigger wheel setup, you'll have to buy the adapter seperately. (I actually have one sitting here if you want to buy it)
It's about as close to a Motec as any standalone is. I never understood the reference. I think Yoshio refers to it as that. Yoshio works on Zacs car here and he'll be putting an Autronic ECU in his car.
There's already more people here running AEM than running Autronic. That says something. You don't see any group buys for Autronic systems and they've been out for a long time. You're going to find more free maps, and support for your AEM than any other ECU here soon.

DirtyLude...if you could turn back the clock...would you go with the AEM rather than the Haltech E6K?
btw...the autronic can run off the stock trigger setup.
it's true that a lot of people are buying the AEM EMS now...but really how many prelude owners are? and how many of them plan on taking their car as far as i do? i'm not sure...and i'm not sure if the "free maps" will be usefull to me.
Rocketlude has a very similar setup to mine and i'm sure (if i bug him enough) he'll share it with me ...maybe haha.
Speedpro is actually another standalone i've been looking at...any comments on that?

Where are the prices on this thing?
And I dont think that it is "useless." Somebody made over 500 hp so that must say something. And just because something isnt as popular doesnt mean it is not good.

autronic is a little more expensive than the aem ems.
i got quote $1400 with the auto tune option. this is the only price i've ever gotten on it...it may be more or less from other dealers.
thank you! 553whp DOES say something. if you search the autronic website...you'll actually see pictures of Rocketlude's car...aswell as a dyno chart.

Re: HELP! I'm thinking of selling my AEM EMS! (kidkutz)
If I could turn back the clock I would go with the AEM over the E6K. It would save me alot of time with the custom wiring I had to do. The basic engine management for the AEM isn't any better than the E6k, but it has so many more controllers that would be useful. I find myself juggling the few pwm outputs I have left.
Well, there are three on PO.com with the AEM EMS and one has a built block even though he's not going as far out as you are. Though I don't see what that has to do with it. The ECU has no idea how much power you're putting out.
I think you should just keep the AEM, it has more features and more potential, but I don't think you'd be going wrong with the Autronic as well. It is a decent and proven ECU.
If you need the Autronic reluctor adapter, I still have it here.

I'm in the market for an AEM EMS if you decide to sell it. Also how far do you plan on taking your car? I'm aiming for the 450whp range.

Re: HELP! I'm thinking of selling my AEM EMS! (JiSATSU RaceR)
Finally sold it huh........ I know a guy in Houston who sells Autronic. He previously used MoTec on his 500+hp MR2 and now uses Autronic. He feels strongly about the system and feels it's very capable. My tuner is mainly a Speed Pro and Accell tuner. Although after tuning my AEM he was seriously impressed with all the features. He said that it has every option Speed Pro has and more. Yes it is new, although any experienced tuner can handle it. I can't begin to explain how many times this topic has been discussed here but my personal opinion is to stick with the AEM. As for JisatsuRacer don't let him influence you. He worries over everything. So all in all Speed Pro is a great system, even though it's been out for ever. Autonic, of what I have heard, seems to be good. Although I believe AEM is going to suit you best.

Why don't you post your mods up here and ask to buy someones program with a simillar setup? I did that with my Zdyne unit and it was very close, My only touches were more fuel pressure. Saves you dyno time and alot of aggrevation. Not too mention as soon as money is involved everybody with that unit will be more then interested in helping you out. Sad to say but true. Good luck.

Re: HELP! I'm thinking of selling my AEM EMS! (MIKES)
FYI...For those of you considering Autronic, you will need the exhaust gas analyser to make use of the Autotune function. The EGA is basically the same price as the ECU control unit itself.
Autotune is basically only useful for creating the base maps for the car. From there, you can tune your car on the dyno. Assuming that the base maps from AEM are decent and will allow your car to fire up, you should be fine.
