HELP! Finished turbo install...car keeps dying!
Hey guys I have a 1993 Honda Preludewith H22a,
I finished installing my turbo kit the other day, but when I went for a test drive, I noticed a problem.
When I give it a large amount of throttle, the car will not rev, and stalls. If I ease onto the throttle it is fine. I was revving it from outside the car, and it is like when I rev it fast the BOV snaps shut, and the car dies...but when I rev it slow the BOV stays open, and the car runs fine. I took the IC piping off the TB, and let it run like that,(just to test) and it was fine...it revved up and never stalled.
Set-up:
For fuel MF2- (i have hondata, this is just for a week or 2)
Vacuum-
I have my BOV tapped inbetween my FPR and the manifold. The vac line runs to the top fitting on the BOV. I have the wastegate tapped into the fitting that comes off of the compressor housing, and it runs to the fitting on the side of the wastegate. My boost gauge is plugged directly into the manifold. I have the check valve placed right before the the stock map.
Question about hondata....I have 2b in my car, but it is using a base b16 fuel and ignition curve chip. So I know I don't need a check valve with hondata, but does it have to be tuned to not need the check valve, or merely installed?
Question about BOV....Should it be open or closed at idle?
Thanks guys,
Josh

Hey,
Thanks..thats what I thought. Then I have another prob...I have the screw tightened all the way down, and the BOV is still open about 1 cm.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Josh

what kind of bov? u have an fmax kit? if u have the hks racing bov, i think it stays open at idle, thats why it comes w/ a small filter....i'll have to check on this.

Hey,
Thanks for the idea!! Why would that cause it to run weird only when I rev it quick? It only runs right when I rev it slow...I have barly driven it around the block...
Thanks,
Josh

I have that prob with I use my A/C... seems to be a fuel WAY too rich issue in my case....
But in you case... It's weird.. seems like when the BOV closes the engine starves for air... is that the case? I know it's a stupid thought... but does the turbo spin? nothing seized or anything.. .no blockages...? packaging packed into the turbo or something wacked like that ?

Re: HELP! Finished turbo install...car keeps dying! (MDA)
Hey,
Yeah, I hear the turbo spooling, so it is spinning. The blades spun perfectly smooth before the install, so I don't think there is anything inside the turbo. I cleaned out all the piping, b4 install. So unless something is jammed in the IC, the airways are clear. You have it eactly right...It seems like it starves for air when the BOV shuts.
Thanks,
Josh
