HELP! DID I BLOW MY PISTON RINGS ?????
i was blowing clouds of white smoke at idle. did a comp. test and got 70 on cylinder 1 and 3. 2 and 4 had 180. thinkin it was my headgasket and changed it, fully tested my head, replaced all seals, and resurfaced it. threw it back on, and got the same compression !! major blowby comin out the oilcap now..... my car's been down for 2 weeks now, cant afford downtime anymore. any info would greatly be appreciated. and was i suppose to remove the copper rings on the headgasket ?? cuz i didnt.

Man, why would you pull the head off without checking the other parts to see if they are OK....
Should have asked before us before you pulled the head the first time man.
With a compression of 70psi I would be like ****, motor is gone.
What gave you signs that may you believe it was the head gasket anyways???
Well you will have to look on the bright side now, time for a re-build.
Get yourself some forged pistons and if you are aiming for higher HP then rods.
Next time you should ask H-T before you do anything that way you would save yourself some money cause we are here to help each other.

Re: HELP! DID I BLOW MY PISTON RINGS ????? (InfamousGSR)
If your ring lands are broken, then you might want to check your cylinder bore.
Since you have your head off just check the valves for any leakage, just pray some Carb cleaner onto the valves from the In/Ex ports. You will see if they are good or bad that way.
Make sure your using new bearings when you do your rebuild, save you lots of money in the long run.
I would recommend you to take the block to a machine shop to get the block check to see what kind of pistons you would need, cause if the ring lands are broken then there might be some scratches on the bore. and you might require oversize pistons.
Better safe then sorry.
I know how it feels to be on a budget cause that is where I am standing. Being trying to get parts and services done to my CRX for Months. Due to financial reason I have to do it little by little but I am getting there, someday that is.
Just take your time, I know that you don't have time but you can't rush things like this.
Good luck and keep up posted.......ask any and all questions if your not sure. noone knows all just some.
