Help with clutch suggestion H22
Well I'm kind of in a delima in trying to figure out what type of clutch I want to get for my girlfriends car. I'll give ya the specs
(EK Hatchback)
Darton Sleeved H22
9.1 Endyn Rollerwaves
Eagle Rods
Stock Head & Stock IM
62-1 T3/T4 Turbonetics Ball Bearing Turbo
Tial 40mm Wastegate
Equal length manifold
950cc Injectors
Uberdata
I have everything just need to figure out the clutch setup. Keep in mind this is my girlfriends car street/strip car I guess you could say. Keep around 350ish whp on the street and around 450-500 in race trim.
I've had great luck with ACT clutches in the past, and have been very impressed with my clutch specialities setup as well. I'm just not to sure,
I called Dave @ clutch specialities and he is telling me that a Heavy Duty PP & Stage 3 6puk disc is going to do the job. Said it will hold around 350tq @ the flywheel.
ACT makes great stuff, but it seems like my application is kind of in the middle, I dont think the XT/SS will hold the power, it may for awhile but not for long. So, how about the XT/R6? Ya its a race disc but how bad is this going to be on the street? Keep in mind a girl will be driving this alot too.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be great, thanks

How about this for no help at all:
I am in a similar situation (needing a clutch for a turbo H motor). I already have the XTSS setup in there from when the motor was in my Accord...I know that disc is not gonna make it so I am going to drop $100 to get the 6 puck disc and pray to God it holds...because if not the next step up is going to be a Tilton or something crazy $$.
To be honest tho, from most of the people I have talked to it doesn't sound like the ACT setup is going to hold (regardless of which disc I use). You are planning on running a bit less power than I am...but 500hp in race trim is still going to come with an awful lot of torque.
The ACT 6 puck is so-so on the street...not my first choice, but its not living hell either...again I am just worried if its gonna hold (for either one of us).
Check this out: (from group tenacity)
Look how bad the pads stretched!!!

Re: Help with clutch suggestion H22
Thanks for the response, a tilton or any multi disc setup is out of the question. I dont have 1100 to blow on a clutch that was really only designed for race applications. I know people use them on the street and they do work great, but I need to find something that will fit my budget yet also perform.
That 6 puk looks pretty bad, it also really depends alot on the driver, I'm sure that clutch was beat to crap.

Yea I am sure he launched the **** out of it...but he also made it sound like that was the first time it had been run.
Don't get me wrong, I think the XT/6puck combo will work fine for your application, and be somewhat streetable...its just the '500hp track days' that I would worry about. Nobody brings their car to the track to 'take it easy'
All I am saying is that I know the ACT is rated to handle more than what you will be throwing at it (XTR6 is rated at 494ft/lbs), but there seems to be some evidence that suggests their ratings might be optimistic. I don't think I would even attempt using the street disc.
Good luck

Re: Help with clutch suggestion H22 (bomber)
Thats why it suprises me, Dont they have something inbetween? like a 6puk disc with a sprung hub?
I've only drove one car with a race disc and it took a bit to get use to, and I'm not sure if the GF is going to dig that.

Re: Help with clutch suggestion H22 (Krnbk2)
Jeff-- Check out SPEC clutches. I got one and I love it. I am using the 6-puck sprung; It's priced well and it holds 300+ tq. I forget the exact number, but def. worth a look.
