Help 4" downpipe CRX WONT FITT!!!
Hey guys im building a b16 crx and trying to mock up my turbo setup. The down pipe i have is a 3" vband to 4" pipe. Its also a top mount manifold with a t70. Ebay is my friend lol. Now my problem is the cross member, with 4" exhaust its pretty buch impossible to clear it even if i cut it up because the exhaust is bigger than the crossmember its self. So my question is, is anyone running no crossmember at all? Could i just cut the center out and still run the rods that go to the control arms? Now this car will not be turning at all strickly drag strip. But i going to be running 24.5x8x13 M&h slicks, so i dont know if thats going to affect anything. I also heard about maybe running an aftermarket traction bar which would replace that cross member? Thing is my deadline is may 1st, first test and tune for the season. Any help will be appriciated. P.s heres some pics of the setup. (dont mind the electrical tape lmao)

Hi,
Even with an aftermarket tractionbar you won't have enough room i guess (atleast on a prelude).I have a innovative tractionbar and thats made of a single steel bar running less than an inch infront of my front chassis beam. but you could modify that to fit around the downpipe.. it will affect the strength though..

easier would be to have a downpipe custom made...
goodluck!

Re: Help 4" downpipe CRX WONT FITT!!!
Yea I think I might beable to get 1/4 steel from my work. Another question off topic but does anyone have a battery cutoff switch? I have one mountEd in my stock hatch key hole, and I have a battery relocation kit from summit. But my question is where do you guys run you cut off? Because if I just run it to cut off the battery the car will still run once it's on. Should I run wires to my dizzy so it will cut spark? I was thinking that running that much extra wire might mess with my voltage.

you need the crossmember or else you will crash, your wheels are not held by the lower control arm like they are on the EG or EK models.
it has to be sturdy enough to keep the front wheels from walking back and forth in your wheel well.
imo buy a reputable company's crossmember and mod/fab your downpipe/dumptube setup to make fit.
or flip the downpipe upside down and do the ol hood exit exhaust.
ebay is not your friend!

if your trying to build/fab a turbo setup in a crx that requires a 4" downpipe you should have some sort of fabrication backround, and we can't answer your questions here on Hondatech.
1. You NEED a crossmember.
2. You should have built a downpipe custom to your application.
3. Make sure you clock the center section of that turbo.
4. Ebay is not your friend.
The easiest thing you can do it just run it though the hood.

Re: Help 4" downpipe CRX WONT FITT!!!
I have a restrictor that came with the feed line kit. Hamilton are you trying to be an ******* cuz it seems that way. The down pipe was the only thing I could find for a topmout setup and it was 40 bucks. But I think I'm going to stencil up a path from the turbo across the crossmember then in between the tranny and the cm. Then take it to a local exhaust shop and have them build it in three inch. Why does everyone hate on eBay there's plenty of guys who run eBay turbos and make good numbers. I'm only running low boost and it's a stock motor so I shouldn't push it much past 300whp anyway. I'm not looking for longevity I'm tracking the car untill I get my lisence back then prolly selling or parting it. I just don't see the point in spending 3k on a manifold, wastegate and turbo setup to make 300whp -_-

you have to interrupt the wire to the alternator otherwise the car will still run with the battery disconnected.
if you search theres a few pics in the archives on how its done.

Like speeddave and others said, you have to have that traction bar...thats what holds your suspension/wheels in place...I say buy a after market bar and fab your down pipe..theres plenty of people with 4in down pipes...Making your own bar will work if you do it right and not skip out..but judging from your turbo setup you like the cheap parts..just my .02

Lmao well yea I do like spending less money that's always good. But my friend has a downpipe off his evo that I can have which fab up and I can snake right in between the cm and the block. It's only 2.5inch pipe but the outlet on the turbo is 2.5 so any bigger is pointless IMO. Thanks for the help though.

i dont think u really need a 4" downpipe. and as for manifold. contact boostwerks. he makes a EF specific top mount. or get a ramhorn.
