help; oil pressure gauge keeps gounding out
first of all the gauge is electrical. i have the sending unit ran off a brass TEE fitting aling with my oil feed line. theres only one connection spot at the top of the sending unit for one wire so i ran that wire straight to the oil pressure gauge it self and when i first started the car it was working fine but as i started driving it started bouncing erraticly al over the place and then would stop working and then start again so i realized i didnt have it tied out of the way. so i zip tied the sending unit securly but it still was touching metal things i the engine bay so i wrapped the whole sending unit in electrical tape to protect it from touching metal grounds and now it doesnt work at all unless i go over a bump and then it will work for a second and then shut off. did i hook up the gauge wrong?

I have an electrical oil pressure gauge too. Is your sender grounded properly? Did you cover up the connection that goes to the gauge? (the one on the sender) and make sure it was secured? sounds like lose wire somewhere.

what type of gauge do u have..
the ground wire for my gauge was connected near the sender unit. I dont know if that makes any difference. But thats what my instructions said for my guage.
there is a reason why the sender is metal. Its so it is grounded. when u relocate it somewhere else it has to be grounded. maybe that whats causing ur problem

yea thats what i thought. i thought that if you screw the sending unit directly into the back of the block that grounds it out and if you relocate it by using SS oil lines then the sending unit has to be grounded but i dont know how im going to ground it, theres no spot for a wire to ground it. theres only a spot to wire the signal wire to the gauge. BTW i have the autometer electrical oil pressure gauge.

Go to the hardware store and get a bendable metal bracket.
put it around the sender and secure it to the firewall with self-tapping screws. (This will ground your sender) Or go the the plumbing section and get pipe clamp that will fit around ur sender. Make sure its metal.
You don't necessarily have to have a wire to ground it. As long as the whole unit is grounded to metal it should work fine. But the ground for the gauge should go somewhere near ur sender. So when you drill the holes to mount it on your firewall. You can secure your ground in the same spot.
i have pics of how mine is done. i'll take some today and send it to you if u wanna see.

I used a hose clamp to. Auto meter makes a bracket that mounts the sender to the fire wall for a really clean look.

I used the hose clamp to clamp a wire to the sender then found a good spot to ground the wire at. Then just zip tied the sender to the fire wall.
It is a temporary solution until I get the holder.

drill a hole through ur hose clamp then mount it to the firewall.
then put the sender in there and clamp it down.
Which is basically what i did in the picture hope this helps ya out.

hook it up the same way you had it. you should have 2 nuts on the send unit.
dont let the top nut touch the bottom of the sender. keep it several threads down. then use the bottom nut to tighten the sending wire to the top nut.
i had the same problem and this fixed me .
hope it helps
