Header off, should i clean that black buildup?

Header off, should i clean that black buildup?
Yeah, I'm midway through the turbo install and i have the header off (finally). I see alot of hardened black buildup around the holes where the header connects, which i assume is carbon deposits. Should i clean this stuff off, and if so, how should i do it?

it looks soo much cleaner after you do it....put something in the hole, so that the carbon goes back by the valves
