Default has anyone ever had this problem with their greddy kit?

im running the greddy tdo5h-18g complete kit with greddy fmic and emanage on my b18c1 in my eg. and i was wondering if anyone has had this problem. as i'm flooring the gas.. the rpm's will go up and you can hear the turbo spooling loud but i am not really accelerating and it feels as if i'm being held back.. until it hits about 5500.. then the car gets fast.

has this happened to anyone? should i be running a BOV?

you should be running a bov, but that has nothing to do with your problems. bov will prevent compressor surge by relieving air pressure in your charge pipe. definitely get one. i had the opposite problem as you...at 5500 i would stop making any power - a bigger exhaust solved that problem.

does it spool and not make power in any gear or at a certain time only?

i have the same problem in all gears.. it will spool and not make power until it hits 5500.. it feels as if im physically being held back and then all of a sudden it just takes off.

I have driven a greddy boosted d16y8 that had the exact same feeling.

its really the turbo, if you look at 18g dyno plots you will see the TQ peak right around 5500 rpm then drop, its kinda just the way the kit is, up the boost, open up the downpipe and it will make quite a difference

when i first ran my sohc greddy kit, i kept it at 5.5 lbs to keep it safe until i could troubleshoot...i ran stock cat & exhaust thinking i'd be okay at low boost...i couldn't even reach boost in 1st, only 2 lbs in 2nd, then 5 lbs in 3rd and 4th. i upped the boost controller to 7 lbs, and then made some more boost in every gear. it would pull hard between 4k and 5k, then would feel like it used to NA...just switching to a 2 1/4 exhaust and test pipe allows me to reach full boost in every gear, spool quickly and i make power up to about 6k. 3" full exhaust to come next.

Well I had the same kit on my car, 18g, big front mount, and emanage on 7lbs, and 2.5 Apexi N1 and it pulled really good at any RPM. I loved it because it spooled quickly and had a lot of midrange. I would definetley get it dynoed or checked out. Good luck.

thanks for the quick replies. i am going to be tuning it soon for sure. probably tomorrow. i was complaining to the people at the shop where i got the kit installed just to see what i could get out of them. they were saying that they cant do anything and that all i could do was get it tuned asap. so i'll be getting it tuned with crome.

I could be just talking out my *** here, but with the smaller exhaust piping you are running ect., wouldnt you just be expeirencing turbo lag???

Jesus. You people have some jacked up Greddy kits it sounds like! Perhaps it has something to do with the "tune" on the emanage?

i was thinking that it was something to do with the emanage but the guy who installed it assured me that he "triple checked" everything. so im just gonna have to get it tuned tomorrow and see what happens. i'll keep you all updated.

when u stated that it hold u back then go. When that happened... does your check light engine turned on?

I had that same problem... Whenever my check light engine turned on it will hold me back then couple of seconds later it spool up hella quick..

i had that problem with the check engine light coming on whenever i would smash.. but then i brought it back to the shop where i got it done and they fixed it.. the lag went away a little and the car got a bit faster.. it still has the holding back problem though.

i have a greddy kit and it kinda did that before, not nearly as bad as you described though.......then i ditched the emanage in favor of crome and now it's a whole new ballgame

You never stated what gear you were in when doing this.. Sounds a lot more like lag at a bad point to me....
