For the hard core drag racers! wheel diamater/power/gearing.. street to track..
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=99316 I posted this in the competition forum but afterward I realized id probably get a better response in here..
to make a long story short im applying the concept that running taller slicks is good for a powerful car to running taller wheels on the street.. Would I benifit from the taller gearing associated with running a 15" rim with a 205/55 vs a 205/50..

up untill around 400whp you will benefit from the gearing advantage of the smaller tires... when I had 315hp at the wheels, my car was much faster (both et and mph) on a 22" slick than on the 24" tires, I never got to re-test when I made 365whp, but the general consensus is that 400whp is when you will need the taller gearing... as a point of referance I think that the stock rolling diameter is about 23.2" on the LS... the 205/55 will be about 23.87 and the 205/50 will be ~23.1... I would stay with the 205/50R15 and if traction is too much of an issue get drag radials, or olny do highway punches on the street!

I have posted this several times to various Forums and I will post it again for archival puropses.
Mickey Thompson ET Drags
20x8x14
up to 225 whp
These will fit on stock HX, CRX Si, B14 200SX SE & B13 Sentra SE-R wheels
These netted me a best of 13.7 @ 97 w/ a 50 shot Dry NOS kit and consistant 1.8 60' times. I am estimating that my car was pushing 180-185 hp to the wheels on the bottle. These are great slicks for high HP NA cars.
Mickey Thompson ET Drags
20x8x15
up to 225 whp
These will fit any 15" FWD steel wheel
Some people like these, personally I don't.
M&H Racemasters
22x8x13
up to 300 whp
These need to be mounted on 13x7-13x8 Bogart, Kaizer, Lenso VPD, or Volk TE37 Drag wheels. These slicks are ideal for anyone pushing 250+ whp. These are ideal for ANY Big Shot NOS Powered cars or turbocharged cars. These things netted me consistant 1.7-1.8 60' times and a best of 12.8 @ 106.5 on Nitrous and a 12.7 @ 112 turbocharged. These are smaller slicks and will net higher MPH than the 24.5x8-8.5x13 slicks.
M&H Racemasters
24.5x8.5x13
Mickey Thompson ET Drags
24.5x8x13
300+ whp
These slicks must be mounted on a set of Drag wheels as stated above. These are ideal for any high hp turbocharged car producing 300+ whp. I netted a best of 12.0 @ 118.77 mph so far even with a bad launch. I have had a best of 2.0 60' time only because my 2 step wasn't working at that time. The higher the HP and with the use of a 2 step or NOS out of the hole will net 1.5-1.6 60' times. These slicks should only be used for cars in the 300-400 whp range! These will be fairly hard to turn with any less hp!
BFG & M&H
26x10x15
500+ whp
These are what all the big boys are running! If you aren't pushing 500+ whp, then don't even think about it!
I hope this helps!

Although this seems like a good guideline, on my car i have found that i am
able to easily overpower the 22x8x13s i was using at the time. I now have
22x9x13s but I havent had a chance to try them as of yet. Keep in mind
i drive an NA car that makes a little over 200whp.
And I must agree that the 22x8x15 slicks really suck.

thanks for the help, You guys laid it out nice and simple where it was easy to understand.. I think im just gonna go back to stock GSR wheels and put drag radials on em or maybe some rotas..

he is correct. i would also add that depending on your driving(drag or street) and depending on your tire size, your tranny type will also come into play. for instance, under 375 hsp and using 24.5" slicks, you would do better using a gsr tranny than a ls. the idea is that you go through the traps at/or just above your peak power. on a gsr motor w/ a medium size t3/4, you would want to hit the 1320 at about 8000 rpm's in 4th gear. adjusting your tire size or tranny will do it.
