Spluttering car please help !
arJust finished rebuilding my B18C4 (UKDM version of B18C1) with Darton MID sleeves, crower rods and CP 9:1 pistons. I'm running a Vortech charger also. Motor dropped in with no problems but theres 2 things thats really bugging me. The SPEEDO doesn't work however the Apexi RSM still registers speed! What could it be????? And also the car struggles to idle when driven. i.e. when i approach traffic lights and back off the gas. dip the clutch and hit the brakes, the revs drops so fast it kills the engine This also happens when the car is idling! When I rev it, revs rise as normal but it drops below 500rpm and cuts out.. sometimes it doesn't it very slowly rises upto 750... The inlet manifold is a Skunk 2..
This is really frustrating as I'm trying to put a few miles on the car to bed everything in, but its really putting me off as my pride and joy isn't 100%.
Please help!!

Would the RSM have anything to do with the speedo not working???? I haven't used the RSM properly yet as it was just installed...

What are you tuning with? What injectors, fuel pressure?
Make sure the plug on the speed sensor is pluged all the way in. The sensor is on the transmission.

The ECU is standard for the time being, AEM Fuel rail but with stock regulator. The injectors are RC310cc. The problem is. I had this setup before the engine decided to chew up a few bearings hence the rebuild. Before that it idled fine.

So you didn't change anything fuel system vise?
Did your compression change?
I think its flooding out but try this when your coming down to a stop, rev the car up a couple of times and see if it dies. I bet its just running really rich uptop and loading it up with fuel the engine has nothing to do with.

Yeah compression changed from 10:1 to 9:1... I can catch the revs when it drops and it splutters and revs rise again... Is there anything I can do to cure this problem? Would an adjustable FPR help?? My old one leaked so I ordered a new one which is coming soon...
Timing at the moment is at a conservative 14degs.....
I need to run the motor in before it hits the rollers

yep stock is 43psi but I would try about 38psi or see what it takes to get it to quit loading up. Don't go too low, you don't wanna starve it.

OK thats probably solved.. Now for the VSS.. Speedo is dead since motor was taken out. Whilst the motor was out I tapped in a RSM. The RSM registers speed off the VSS wire however the speedo is dead.. What could be the cause??? the VSS????
Thanks

Turns out to be a faulty clock.. Car is still spluttering and lumpy idling though.. Would the compression ratio have effect??? the old compression is 10:1 now its 9:1... Timing is 14degs with a standard fuel pressure regulator.. The car idled fine when first started but now its gradually got worse and worse I have to dump the clutch @ 3Krpm to get it moving Check all the IAC sensors etc.. However I have SPOON cams set @ TDC.. Would this be a no no?? WOuld I need to revert back to stock cams???
I need suggestions!!! PLEASE!!!! I need to get my car out of the workshop!
