Well I picked the car up yesterday and unfortunately paid before I got to see the car because they pretty much blew up the motor. I got an email from them about the catch can filling up but when I arrived to pick up a finished car, I would barely even idle. After I paid they said "yea, you can drive it but I wouldn't boost it." I'm assuming it blew the ringlands. So I spend over 2k there and now my car doesn't even run.

WTF! That's bull ****! What shop was that? I've had so many bad experiences with shops and tuners and wasted so much money. This is exactly why I build and tune my own stuff now. Sorry to hear about that man.

Today I was cleaning out the garage and gave the car a second look while I wasn't pissed off about thr damn thing. So I started the car and unplugged each plug wire while it was running. I pulled 3 or them with no change in idle till I pulled the 4th one and the car died. I also pulled the plugs and they all looked alike till I got the the 4th cylinder and it had some oil on it. I'm gonna pull the block and through another stock block in there .

You should do a simple compression text on the engine before you pull it, maybe even a leak down test if you have the tools to do it. Probably a cracked ringland on #4 though...

File a report to the FCC and any city/state organization that deals with shady business practices. Honestly man I would be so pissed I would probably do something really stupid. If you can there's always small claims court, but you obviously need evidence and an attorney.

What does the Federal Communications Commission have to do with anything? You gotta get those acronyms straight. Perhaps you mean the BBB, which may create a "bad rep file" on the business, but they would have to perform an investigation first.

The best you can really hope for is to have another shop have evidence that it was the previous shop's error. You would then have to have an attorney create a case file to recompense you, or work with a mediator to get a portion back.

Going to small claims court will be a waste of time, unless you have the ability to prove causation. That's about it.

You just now know not to go there again, and if you're not able to do this yourself, at least take care in finding another reputable location that can do the work.

I'm not looking to sue haha I just needed to vent my frustrations. I'm gonna find another b20 block and throw it in there. The shop was Vip performance.

Yes, otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it. ;-).. They don't take too well to external contact with heated sources, without thermal sleeveing

I found a nice B16a I'm gonna swap with the B20. Can I use my 208 4303 arp headstuds (ls/vtec gsr) in a b16? It's gonna be a B16a block with a GSR head.

Also any suggestions on a decent MBC?

Thanks
Joe

Ordered Tial big and small red waste gate springs, and a Hallman mbc.

Does anyone know if I can use my GSR head studs in the b16?

No. You cannot. Deck heights of the block are different. You may be out a few extra bucks, but using the proper studs are within your best interest.

Thanks Shodan. Should I buy a smaller turbo for the 1.6? Currently have a turbonetics 5454.

Waiting on a bottem end gasket kit, headgasket, waste gate springs aND the mbc. Hopefully have it together by February.

And one last question. The lsv dowel pin broke off flush in the head. Is drilling it out the easiest way to remove it?

Thanks
Joe

What's the power goal and purpose? B16s like smaller turbochargers, but all depend upon what you're doing and what power band you're doing it in..

And don't use "as quick spooling as possible"... That is NOT a goal or purpose.

The car really has no purpose other than the hobby. My goal with the B20 was 350whp and responsive at all rpms(running B16 trains w/Quaife LSD). The B16 I know can be pushed a bit harder but I still want it to be responsive. Honestly at this point I wouldn't buy another turbo anyway. The goal would be 350-400. The spring I just ordered is for 15 psi which I'm sure will be more than enough.

The motor consists of
-GSR head ctr internals
-Performer X IM
-Grams 1000cc
-B16a stock block

-Turbonetics billet 5454
-3in exhaust

That's not what we mean by purpose... This is ALL a hobby. What we mean by purpose is what is the intended use of the car (street/strip, street monster, Circuit/street, etc).

Don't worry about what psi exactly its going to take to reach your goals. Count on using some sort of boost controller, and keep yourself pretty reasonable in power goal. 350-400whp is very possible, but will be at higher boost pressure levels due to its turbine wheel size.

Considering you're keeping the block stock, 320-350whp is about as far as you can go on Knock resistant fuel anyway.. THAT, may be around 15psi or so...

I guess street monster haha. I have another car for daily driving so this will be the fun side car. I recieved my mbc yesterday along with the springs. For 15psi Tial calls for 2 springs, a Big and small red spring. Can anyone confirm this? The charts are kinda confusing.

You must go by the chart that is on TiAL's website. If you have an older model, go by their older chart located in their technical archives.

Well the springs are good for 17psi not 15 so I think I'll be good with that.

I'm debating upgrading the pistons in the b16 but I'd like to keep the stock rods. I think rods would be over kill for 450hp. What forged pistons accept oe pressed style wrist pins? Also would I have to resize the rods like you do with an LS for ARP rod bolts?

If the stock rods can't handle 450 I will upgrade them but I'm on a budget and would like to put the money towards some ems.

Thanks
Joe

No forged pistons for B engines have press fit pins.
