Default GT35R on a Subaru STi... .63AR or .82AR? Oh the choices

i'm putting a GT35R on my best friends car...but I can't decide whether or not he should go with the .63 or the .82? I figure since its AWD go with the .63, but then again we all like the top end power...and it IS a 2.5L He's set on the .63, but I think the .82 will be the "better choice" what do you guys think?

the .82 will spool really fast. its ball bearing and its 2.5l of displacement... he is stuck in the mindset of typical turbo characteristics...

hmm i would def go with a .63 .. believe me espically if its a street car.. we have a STI with a Precision GT3576R . 63 hotside and i think it doesnt really have a good useable powerband.. so dont go with an 82. post up result and let me know how u like the powerband

can you post your dyno plot? what are you revving to? I think we'll up the RPM by another 1000 rpms to make use of the turbo's power. Rev to 8k. I'm thinking that the .63 may be the way to go.

.63 unless you wanna spray a 30 shot to help her spool up then go with the .82

but overall the .63 would probably be the better choice on the streets...now on the freeway thats another story

with the testing we've done over the last year and a half, the .82 a/r seems to be the better choice on the 2.5L big piston short stroke suby.
we've done ~25 500+ stock head/stock bottom since the first one appeared in Dsport around jan '05.

we've actually tried everything from the GT3076R to the GT4088R(605awhp stock engine) on the STi's
feel free to PM if you have any other questions about these setups

how good are these scoobys and evos with huge turbos? i was thinking because they have shorter gears also they dont have much rpm to play with, wudnt this mean they have very few rpm of max whp that it is producing? when do these kind of setups hit full boost and reach max whp?

browse http://www.nasioc.com in the 2.5L forum.

lots of good info and dyno plots for .63 vs .82 choices.

at 26-27psi one of our STIs makes 500lb/lbs at 4200 rpm with the .63. Top end does fall off slightly after 6500rpm. makes for a pretty fun street car though. personally I would pick the .82 on this setup.

Since it is 2.5L you should go with GT4088R
