Default GT30r + b16: .82 or .63 housing, spool time, and its effects....?

Ok so i have a gt3076r i purchased for my build. I got a sick deal on it but it has a .82 a/r exhaust housing.... Now I know the *ideal* housing for this setup is most likely .63 but my question is how will the housing effect my spool?

I figure the .82 housing on my b17 will spool around 5-6k rpms based on a bunch of dynos i looked at.... but how would a .63 housing effect my spool? I mean how much earlier would power come in? 500pms? 1k rpms? 2k rpms?

Just trying to figure out if the decrease in spool time is worth all the hassle of selling the .l82 housing and buying the .63 housing

thanks for your input
Oh and for reference lets say this is for 18psi of boost....

I'm running a .82 30R on my stock-block b16 ... reacts roughly the same as my old 57 trim/.63 a/r on my built motor. Starts spooling at 4500ish where as the 57trim started spooling around 4000ish.

Also - if the turbo is new, contact garret and explain the situation. Ask them if you can send the .82 housing in return for the .63 housing. You might have to pay a couple bucks, but if you did get a sick deal on the .82 housing anyway, you'll probably still end up making out.

I would have went witt the .63 if i was going to be keeping this setup, but it was only to get the bugs out ... my built motor is about to go in and is going to be revved to 9500+ with blox b's, so the bigger exhaust housing will benefit me a little more.

Jeff Evans said on his website that he noticed no significant spoolup difference on the dyno between the .63 and the .82. I got the .82 AR, its the meanest street turbo you could want...and I get 200whtq by 43K. You get the headroom you want for more power ~550whp on race juice, plus the .82 ar allows you enough time to hook up so its not tire-roas-tville: population you.

Keep the .82 man. Its got everything on the .63 and loses nothing.

x2 ... this was actually the reason I bought the .82 in the first place. If i'm not mistaken, jeff want from a 30r .63 to a 35r, back down to a 30r .82 ....

To the thread starter, as dumb as I feel even saying this - i can't remember where I get full boost ... mainly because i've only driven the car 3 times since the setup has been complete and to tune ... but there have been some problems holding consistant boost... but I would say it's at 8psi by no later than 4800 or so because it'll hold that till 5500ish and shoot to 13.

I'm not sure when i'll get the chance to drive it again, but when i do - i'll make sure to pay a little extra attention and i'll post in the thread or shoot you a pm

3040r .82 a/r on my stock b16 started spooling by 4k and had full boost at 5500 rpm (6-9psi).

drop 400 or so rpm for the 1.8L bottom.
