Default gt28rs vs. gt2871r

which turbo would be better for a stock jdm itr for a all around good time?

what would make one turbo better than the other? im not a dynoqueen trying to get a supra power band, i want something fun and usable.

I was debating the same and her is what I found. Gt28RS for a stock motor. get the GT2871RS for a mildly built one.

The only problem you'll have with the gt28rs - it will have such a wide powerband, that you'll feel bad only running 8-11psi. Quick-spooling turbos just seem to cry "high boost!". Otherwise it would be a great choice.

GT28RS > GT2871R... I've had both turbos running on my B18C, each turbo running at their respective power range.

I'd only go for the larger GT2871R if your mind is set to make above 320 WHP. Anything lower (esp for a stock motor), you can't go wrong with the super responsive GT28RS.

Disco Potato is great for 300-ish and below.

The GT2871r is the bomb on sr20det's, though..I know that for sure

only the bomb because it fits on the stock t2 manifold. sucks otherwise.

Typical noob response...

I am running the T2-based turbine housing with a T25 HKS manifold... I have no problem making power up to 8800RPM and the turbo has great response anywhere above 2500RPM... Although I do suggest the T3 drop-in housings for most turbocharged Hondas because all the popular turbo manifolds are T3 flanged anyways.

what do u recommend for A/R for the GT28RS and
A/R for the GT2871RS if i was to choose one for a stock B18C in an ek?

Also what is a decent power goal for a STOCK B18C Ek daily driver, (motor well maintained and running strong right now) ? me thinking 300ish whp, until atelast next year when i have more funds to build it.

Definently .82 a/r on the 28rs, the 2871r could go both ways, for a B18C the .82 a/r will be great, itll spool just a bit slower then t he 28rs.

As for the power goal, that's all you. 300whp with quality parts and a good tuner is not a problem.

But can it hold boost and make power to 8500rpm?

Well, you gotta look at the rest of your setup (cams, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, exhaust system/downpipe, cam timing, etc).

My particular setup made power until 8000RPM, then it stayed flat and starts to slope down after 9000RPM. Setting my shift points at 9200RPM resulted in the fattest powerband possible. My oddball setup doesn't relate to anyone here though, so I simply do not have a straight answer for you.
