gt28r or gt30r for daily driving
I'm looking to pick up one of these but I'm new to turbos and don't know which would be better for my application. I'm looking to make 300-400whp. I'm also looking for quicker spooling for more fun on the streets.
My setup is
84mm aebs sleeved b18
cp 9:1 pistons
ge rods
b16 head
all itr internals(cams, valves, and springs)
probaly going ot run an equal length manifold with 3in dp
walbro fuel pump
750cc injectors
s300 for tuning

Re: gt28r or gt30r for daily driving (I Have an STD)
thanks. I was looking on the garrett site and there are a couple gt30r. W was looking at the gt3071r they say it is the smallest of the gt30r. I figure if its the smallest it sould spool the fastest.

I had a .63 GT30R on my 84mm GSR motor and it was perfect for the street. Good for high power, but still decent response time considerin the size of the turbo.
PS: I'm selling my GT30R btw PM me

I use a GT3076R which is good for about 450pump or 550race. Great turbo but compared to my almost lagless gt28R you definantly can tell the difference. For the 400-500whp range you can't beat teh 3076r. However if my goal was a to build a 300-400hp street car. I would use the GT28RS. You can make mid 300 easy without the extra lag.

28rs will make up to ~350ish with a nice head and proper tuning.
2871 will get you close to the 400 mark.
Personally, I think the 3076 is your best bet. I'm running one, it makes great power at very modest levels of boost. Plus being it's capable of mid 500's, if you ever get bored at your power level you still have some room to work with. I think the spool is great.

Re: (a1320addict)
at about how much psi are these numbers? I'm looking to run only around 14lbs daily and then turn up boost on weekends or just for fun.

Re: (purpleh22)
Both of the following results were on a bone stock gsr, completely stock minus headstuds and the turbo setup.
When I had the 28rs on the car, it made 330whp/250wtq at 10 psi. Was making 325whp/245wtq at 8 psi with the 30, and just recently made 450whp/325wtq with the 30r.
Spool wasn't really a big sacrifice, if you'd like I can upload the dyno overlaying the 28rs and the 30r for comparison. I liked the 28rs..but it definently will hold you back when you want more power.

I've had the GT28RS and the GT3071R on my built B16, made 385 with the 28RS and 408 with the 3071R. Personally I liked the 28RS for the street, it spools a bit quicker and hits harder, just more fun all around. At the strip I was trapping higher with the 3071R, but ET's were better with the 28RS.

We tested the GT28RS and the GT30R on Jeff's car a couple years ago. Here is a link to the graph: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1045887.

How did you make so much power on the RS?

Re: (nikolai.)
23 PSI on a sleeved B16, 8.4:1 custom Wiseco pistons, RLZ head, Lovefab SST manifold -w- 3" downpipe and 3" exhaust, jDogg-tuned EMS -w- COP and Tony1 Hall-effect setup, etc. We were surprised it made that much power, but it kept making power the more we turned it up. As the efficiency dropped off it wanted a lot more fuel, but it didn't seem to mind. I ran it like that for a year or two, then parted out the whole setup. Last I heard all the pieces were still working well.
