GT2871r vs. GT28rs which is the better turbo
Okay i have heard alot of opinions about these two turbos. I would like to see facts showing which one is a better turbo. I would like to see dynos, turbo specs, compressor maps if possible. They can be form any car with either of these two turbos honda nissan etc. if you are going to post a dyno chart please make sure you say what car, turbo, boost level etc. if you would like to leave your opinion please use the poll thanks in advance

Better turbo for what application? no one can say which is better without some sort of goals.

which is a better, more efficient turbo. if both turbos were used on the exact same engine which one will make more power if both are at the same boost level? which one will spool first? can one support more power than the other? since both are similarly priced i want to buy the better of the two. it will more than likely never see more than 9 psi it will be used on a d16y8 with a cr of about 10.5:1 and Apexi Power FC

For your application, I think that the GT28RS would be a much better choice. The GT2871R will flow more air and potentially make more power, but your setup will not be able to use the additional flow, so it's not worth the slower spool time of the GT2871R if you don't need enough flow to make 400 HP. I ran a GT28RS on my car for a while and it is the best street turbo IMO, lightning fast spool and good power. As far as which will make the most power at the same boost level, you would need to figure out the pressure ratio of your engine and plot it against the compressor map of the turbos to wee which would most efficient at the boost level you are shooting for. Here's some good info on doing that:
http://www.turbosaturns.net/ar...s.htm
Here's a dyno of my 8.5:1 B16 with a GT28RS pushing 20 PSI, dropping off to 18 PSI at redline. The clutch was slipping, hence the crappiness as the torque gut up over 270, and we made 380 WHP with after I replaced the clutch, but I didn't get a copy of that graph. The tuning was done by JDogg on an AEM EMS.

Re: GT2871r vs. GT28rs which is the better turbo (rmcdaniels)
Like rmcdaniels said, if you won't be using the extra flow, its probably not worth it. People are showing the GT28RS is fine for 300whp, while the GT2871R is obviously capible of more, but its more for hitting higher RPMs before running out of air.

simply because i can and i want to i would like the car to make power off boost as well as on. i would rather not lower the compression and run more boost. when i can raise the compression and run lower boost

I'm tryin to make numbers rmcdaniels style. You actually got me keeping the gt28rs after i get the block built just to see if I can make numbers like that. I'm not sure how much more lag comes with the 71r but the rs is damn near supercharger response.

B18c1 stock internals
10.5 psi at 5k rpm and bled down to 8.5 by 8k this explains low peak numbers and high tq numbers. I would expect that if I fixed my electrical power drain issue which is effecting my tune I would make a lot more power.
