one of my homies has a 93 cx with a gsr and a full greddy turbo kit.
hes boosting at 9lbs, the gsr is bone stock.
its been smoking kind of alot latly, its been smoking white and blueish smoke.
its burning oil but he hasnt been losing alot of oil.
can it be the rings? when you take off the oil cap it smokes. can it be the valve seals?
he knows hes not going to last at 9lbs with stock internals forever, but can they be starting to go?

Sounds like a ring problem...

Your buddy didnt happen to be running 9psi on the bluebox was he?
If so that would lead me to think that its a cracked ringlanding, and it will only get worse.

You could also check for oil in the charge pipes, but it sounds like its a ring issue.
Try doing a compression test and a leak down that will narrow things down.

we already did that.
we took off all the charge pipes..there was oil in them and a little in the tb.
we clean the tb and degreased all the charge pipes and intercooler.
there was some oil in the turbo as well.
we did all that about a month ago, and there hasnt been any oil in the turbo or in the charge pipes since.

and what did it leak down to?

its tuned on crome by whitfield racing.
walboro 255 lph and 310cc.
higher flowing injectors for sure.

The number itself isnt what tells the story, its the varience that does. I have heard stories that 15% is the point where things get dicey, but honestly i think people put too much dependency behind them, its a simple test that actually most people dont do correctly. Leak down is by far a much better test.

Numbers sould be around 200-230psi for a strong motor, 180-200psi is still good, 150-180 is normal for lower compression motors but is considered to be on the low side.

Its usually the first to go, and i was just being a smartass

But honeslty if it keeps getting worse then its most likely a cracked ringlanding, and in most cases when its this minor there wont be a difference in the way the car sounds but there will typically be a lot of blowby from the valve cover and as it gets worse the car will smoke a lot durring initial start up and so on...

Do a compression test and go from there.

Nothing to check, is he running stock black box on the back of the motor? Or is he running some sort of catch can. Running a stock PCV is a no-no and something that is overlooked on alot of setups.

Oh catch cans are over-rated to ****, i have seen multiple cars making over 400whp with stock pcv and not having any problems

You can do a comp test, but I would do a leakdown test. A leakdown will help you figure out what is wrong if there really is something wrong. You can also build your own tester.......................
