Default :: gsr with ls cams = non-vtec??? ::

is this right? i have a local shop telling me that they can install a set of custom cams which are derived from an ls which would disable vtec and improve performance for my turbo gsr. does this sound right to you guys? sounds suspect to me, so i wanted to get a second opinion. thanks.

I saw a JUN civic with that once, but that motor was NA. Could be true, is the shop known for good work?

Unless they are the (Toda?) VTEC killer cams where the lobes are gone...I wouldn't do it. I know LS cams won't fit in the vtec heads. I also think the VTEC killer cams are made for high revving allmotor cars where topend weight is a big factor. Never heard of anyone using them for a turbo build. I could be wrong but this is my understanding.

I don't think they would be LS cams per say but I guess you could just grind one lobe and elimiate vtec, but I'm thinking that would hinder more than help because you would lose a LOT of lowend.

actually...it would work

you'd just have to make the vtec lobe, primary, and secondary all the same duration and lift

Well, you looking to do a Non-VTEC head?

If that's the case, if you want to completely eliminate VTEC, you'd have to get rid of the activation solenoid, cam, and modify the ECU.

On the other hand, if you want to make a cam that is more even on its lobes, to say REDUCE the effects of VTEC, that's possible, but the lobes on the new cam would need to include pins to get VTEC going in the head when the solenoid kicks it in. Otherwise, I believe the ECU will throw a MIL on the dash.
