GSR has no VTEC after Turbo Kit???????
I recently did a turbo kit on a customers GSR swapped EG hatchback.
The car is not a daily driver, matter of fact, the car has only seen about 3000miles on it in the last year or so.
The customer came in and told me he had a GSR swapped EG hatchback. Existing mods were Skunk2 Stage 1 camshafts, Skunk2 PRO intake manifold. He was interested in one of our custom turbo kits. We agreed on a price an i took delivery of the car. Car seemed to run and idle fine mechanically, however i did not test drive it for any length of time.
We built our turbo kit which consists of:
Log manifold an DP
T3 Super 60 Turbonetics Turbo
BOV, WG, FMIC, etc etc etc
Car has DSM 450cc injectors, CHROME ecu.
We tuned this car NA over a year ago an it made 171whp. Vtec engaged fine, no problems out of the motor at all.
We finshed up the turbo kit an did some pulls on it. Car made 186whp on LOW CAM ONLY. We set VTEC x over, the car stumbles at VTEC X over an falls on its face. Drops like 50whp. VTEC is not MECHANICALL engaging.
Things i have TESTED:
Solenoid DOES HAVE POWER at VTEC X over point
I have tried 3 different ECUs with different maps
Allen Key in the front of the head has 65PSI of oil pressure, this is AFTER the vtec solenoid
Timing is DEAD ON TDC
ECU IS SWITCHING TABLES from Low Cam to High Cam
Wiring for VTEC is normal
I have also removed his camshafts inspecting for a broken oil control orifice or something that was out of the ordinary, everything is there PER THE HONDA SERVICE MANUAL.
I did a valve adjustment
OIL PAN HAS NO DENTS
With the car running and holding at 3000rpms, if i MANUALLY engage the VTEC solenoid by hotwiring it to the battery, the car tries to die.
Im officailly stumped. Everything seems to be THERE for VTEC to work, oil pressure, power, ECU, but it wont engage.
ill post the dyno in a moment.

yes, swapped solenoid out, cleaned the screen.

strange.... have you checked all the wires to see if one is grounding out somewhere along the line?

you say oil pressure is good but how is the oil level. I have read many cases where when the oil is low vtec will not engage.

hmmm i swapped the solendoi itself, but maybe the switch wire is bad? could be i guess.
cam gears WERE adjusted for the NA tune, but i have since put them back at zero.

Re: GSR has no VTEC after Turbo Kit???????
I put in stage 2 camshafts in my setup on a gsr with a type r block and vtec never wanted to engage at all it would just fall and stumble at 5500 rpm then i put my regular gsr cams back in and vtec engaged and everything went like normal. Most likely it would have to do with the timing in the camgears. Adjust them since the wrong timing could make vtec not engage. I checked everything on mine and the timing was perfect on the crank pulley but most likely its the timing on the cam gears that need to be adjusted. Have to tune it.
