Gsr block with b16b head (turbo)
I have a b16b and I bought the greddy 18g turbo kit, now to run a safe motor I need some help. Im going with a gsr block because the cr on the b16b is too high and i don't want to risk blowing it.
Im only looking to get around 250whp for a fun dd nothing too crazy. Need advice on if I need to change the gsr pistons? And wht kind of a headgasket? Arp studs?

If you only have a stock b16b I would just turbo that and save the gsr
bottom end to replace it when you blow it up. I dont know if you need
a carb legal setup but if not try talking to one of the sponsors about a
kit that will work on your stock motor at those power levels.

Re: Gsr block with b16b head (turbo)
I dont know why people get so hung up on compression ratios of stock motors. The b16 is just as good as the gsr. Actually, in the thread about the highest hp on a stock engine, the b16 put out a good amount more power then the gsr. As long as you stay under a certain whp and have a good, reputable tuner, there is nothing wrong with boosting a b16. People boost type r motors with no problems as long as you dont push it too far. As long as your compression ratio is not 13.5 to 1 or something stupid, you are in the clear

I had a friend who just blew his c5 on the dyno at 277whp, I just don't want to take the risk and waste the time to change the block. I'm going to be swapping over the b16b from a eg to Ek so I have the perfect opportunity to build the block or put a gsr block?

I would definitely build the block. Either spend 600+ on a stock gsr with 100k or spend 700 on a set of rods and pistons to have a brand new, stronger engine. I would go with the second choice.

Re: Gsr block with b16b head (turbo)
hard to say... i am currently running about the same set up right now..
bottom block is a JDM B18c gsr, and head is my usdm b16a3 head w/ itr cams..
it was rebuilt w/ 2k miles before i slapped on a turbo... boosting around 7psi, i just blew my headgasket.... not too sure why it blew.. but have an idea relating to the itr cams inside.. feeding too much air possibly bumping up the compression..... i had a b16a2 that was turbo which ran fine... 7psi w/ 240whp drove for 5 months before getting reffed..
