GSR 3rd and 4th gear in LS Tranny

ok i have been looking through some of the old post with the ls vs. gsr tranny. what im wondering is will the gsr 3rd and 4th gear work well in a ls tranny? i already have a ls tranny with a quaife in it and dont feel like buying a gsr tranny and a new quaife thats just more money than im will to spend at the moment. plus i have a friend that broke the rear tranny mount on his gsr tranny and it cracked the casing pretty bad so he bought a ls tranny so i have access to anything i need out of the gsr tranny. any help would be would be great.

another question what are the ideal gear ratios that you want for a turbo car?

I know you can do it..... but thats all i know. never tried it myself. I do know that 3rd/4th share the same gear stack so you can probably just pull the LS 3rd/4th gear stack out and put the GSR one in...... remember, ive never done it... https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

yes you can swap 3rd and 4th from the gsr tranny into your ls. you have to take both the the main shaft gear and counter shaft gear off the old stuff and put it in yours. or you could put your friends gear set and make it a gsr. you would just need to get a b16 4.40 diff ring. did you buy that tranny from someone in WA?

Re: (ninesecteg)

it will work, but you need to use the synchros and selector rings for each gear from the gsr. you will also need the shift forks, because the ones on the ls trany might not be wide enough!

Re: (smokey2.0)

how much did it end up costing you?

Re: (tegasaurus)

i just happened to have all the parts available, i bought the itr gear set for 200 and my friend lendt me his itr lsd! but now his car is out of the body shop, so i must return the lsd! just the gear(two pieces) will cost you about 150 from the dealer. that doesn't include the synchros, wich you'll defenetly need for third gear(fourth might be the same, i can't remeber that well)

I have an LS tranny case hydro with GSR 1st and 2nd, ITR 3rd and 4th, LS 5th with 4.4 final drive. for some reason, it does not want to go up stroke. What I mean is it wont go in only on 1st,3rd,&5th. It would go in nicely going down stroked. 2nd, 4th & reverse. I have all brand new parts internally with quaife LSD and had 4.4 final drive. I don't know what's going on.

damm, that's hard one to figure out ! i would tell you to first check if the shift linkage is bendt, if it's bendt up(the push rod usually bends when you try to hammer in the bitch pin) then there is a good chance that your up shifts will be affected! thsi happened to a friend of mine, we bendt the rod and it would pop out of fith gear! it can't be the forks, becuse if you had a broken fork you wouldn't be able to get that gear either up or down(i.e. 1/2 3/4 5/R) first try to llok at the rod to see if it's bendt, or if the shift linkage is bendt. if those two thinks check out to be in good shape, you'll have no other choice than to pull the tranny off the car and open it up! good luck https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

well, the tranny is out of the car, I just got it back from the local tranny shop and he said that there's a pin that associate with the forks that is coming out farther out than it supposed to. he said it should be fine now. I have not put the tranny back into my car yet because I have a dyno session coming up this saturday Jan.10, 04. I'll try to put the tranny back as soon as I get back from the dyno.
