greddy turbo kit on d16z6
i am thinkin about getting the greddy turbo kit for my 94 civic ex and i was wondering weather or not to upgrade fuel. I don't really want to buy hondata yet cuz im kind of low on money. does the kit come with the bluebox? if so i heard that is meant for stock injectors. If i upgrade the injectors to something bigger will it interfere with the blue box. Any sugestions would help. thanx

Yes, the kit comes with the bluebox. It will more than suffice with stock injectors. When I first installed my kit I was running the bluebox and I had my car dyno'ed and had them run an A/F plot with their wideband O2 and my car was running super rich, something like 9:1 A/F. That would be the one drawback to the bluebox, at least on my car it made it run incredibly rich. Of course, over rich is better than over lean.

Can't tune it at all, the blue box essentially doesn't allow for any adjustment. There are some adjustable pots inside but nobody knows what they do yet (workin' on it though, lol).
The stock kit is at 5 psi, it's really easy to turn the rod on the wastegate to up it to 6. Seeing as how the blue box makes the car run so rich, you should have no problem. Retard your timing a little if you want to go further, and run 92 and you could probably do 7 or 8. However, I wouldn't go much higher than that unless you get an intercooler.

Get an oil pan gasket and an exhaust manifold gasket from the dealer. Also, you might want some honda-bond to seal the oil return fitting (unless you weld it on).
Also, be sure to find out whether the kit you're getting comes with a BOV or not. I thought mine did, but it didn't so I drove around without one for a few days, no biggie but the sound of compressor surge isn't very appealing.
You might also want to get an A/F ratio gauge and a boost gauge. I got autometer stuff but I wouldn't recommend it myself... the A/F gauge is just a light show, and the boost gauge isn't very accurate.

i would say a clutch before any fuel upgrade
your stock clutch won't last long even with 6 psi...
good luck

Hmm... yeah, clutch might also be a good idea. However, it should hold up as long as you're not revving it up and dropping the clutch. It's only a means of transfer for the power, if you're not driving it like you stole it all the time then it will be alright. I'm going on almost a month at 5-6 psi on my stock clutch that to my knowledge hasn't ever been replaced in the 119,000 miles on my car, and it's still strong.
Just be nice to it and it will be nice to you, but be ready to replace it if it goes. That's next on my list for when I get some spare cash, just so I don't have to have much downtime waiting for UPS if my stocker gives out.

yeah, im running my greddy turbo with 6psi...and stock clutch at 95000 miles. ive had the turbo for 6-7000 miles...the clutch holds at lower gears...but from 3-4 gear...man i lost 1-2 car lengths to a gti...either that or he just played me.

and how do u feel about the greddy kit? any problems? reliability? some hard core honda-tech members say that its kinda the whimpy kit. alot of people say that rev hard or drags are much more powerful what do u think

I think for the money the kit will do just fine. You can't beat boost for 1500 bucks. However, the kit IS lacking in some areas, mainly fuel management. The blue box does what it's supposed to and does it well, but just dumping more fuel into the cylinders with no tuning is not the road to a well-running turbo car. I knew this from the get-go and I already had it in my mind that the bluebox would be retired as soon as I could come up with a better means for management.
Also, and I know nobody else has had this problem, but my downpipe from the kit does NOT end up in the exact same location as the stock header when all bolted up. It points outwards towards the driver's side rear of the car a tad, which chaps my hide because it makes my exhaust bang on my muffler (rubber hangers flex when you force the cat and exhaust to bolt up to the DP)
The reason I went with the greddy kit was mainly because I didn't know all the ins and outs of piecing together my own kit. I felt like it would give me a good start into the world of boost, and later on down the road I can upgrade components as I feel the need.
I know lots of people on here will tell you to piece together your own kit, and that's fine and dandy if you've worked with turbos and/or installed them before, but being able to buy a kit pre-built with all the parts you need to install is underrated. I would've spent weeks piecing together all the parts, and then I probably would've spent more weeks trying to make everything fit and tracking down little parts I didn't know I would need, but instead I ordered the greddy kit and got it within a week and got it all installed in one weekend and drove my car to work on Monday.
