Default Got screwed by shop. Now what?

To make a LONG story short, about three months ago my car was smoking like hell, so I took off the turbo manifold and it was filled with oil. I took my head to a reputable shop and they told me that it was due to my valve seals. So they replaced those and did a three angle valve job.

Now, I finally finished my car today and started it. The car fired right up and was still blowing a lot of smoke. I figured it was because my downpipe and exhaust had a lot of oil residue in it from when the seals went bad the first time, so I let it idle thinking that the smoking would eventually stop. The car kept smoking and got worse.

I turned the car off, took off the wastegate and stuck my finger in the turbo manifold...and it was filled with oil again! I'm assuming that the shop did a **** poor job and now I'm screwed again.

My question is, what can I do? I'm giving them a call tomorrow to see what can be done. If they won't help s there any legal action I can take? Or am I just screwed?

Also, could there be any damage to turbo since the manifold was dumping all that oil into the exhaust side? The turbo is brand new. This sux.

First try to talk it over with them before resorting to legal action

that does suck, don't jump to conclusions. There are many things that could be causing the same problem. Reputable shops gain that reputation for a reason...just calm down and work it out together

The shop only got to see your head. They didn't get to see your block.... So the smoking could've been the valve seals on the head and the piston rings/piston ring landings.

You should take your whole car to the shop.

Actually the shop did get to see my whole motor, when I brought in the head, I also brought in the block to have the rings replaced (like I said, it's a LONG story). And I know it isn't the seals on the turbo because the turbo is new.

Should I pull the head and bring it in? Or is there a chance that they did something else wrong? Is bringing the whole car in my best bet?

As far as what action you can take. How did you pay for your purchase? Did you pay by cash or did you happen to pay by credit card like VISA? If you paid by VISA you can dispute the charge. You first have to let the merchant attempt to remedy the problem. Then go through some other steps.

do a quick compression check. before you do anything. maybe your head got warped some how. from the amount of oil you are saying i find it hard that it would be your valves. but then i am no mechanic. id would no damage your turbo. if anything it will protect the turbine from rust wile you car sits up.

Let them see the whole car. I had a turbo for only a couple of days and all the seals inside broke. The people who put my car together (TNR in Glenview, IL) did a poor job. Car was dying the day I got it, fluids were leaking and burning etc etc. Then the car blows three days later. They did nothing to help me fix the car except work the grey areas like pros.

In any case, let them see the car and let them try to fix it. If they are very uncooperative and they don't try to remedy the problem (Such was my case at Team Noble Racing) you can always report them to the Better Business Bureau or the Consumer Protection Agency.

I talked to the shop and they were very helpful. We're trying to find out what's wrong and I have a few ideas. My oil pressure was VERY high. The autometer oil pressure gauge was reading 80 psi. How did you "turn down" the oil pressure? I also just noticed that I have no PCV valve. Instead of a PCV valve there is a plastic fitting connecting the rubber hose to the canister. Could this be the problem?

almost always when a honda starts smoking 99% of the time it will be the rings, not the valve seals

what is your oil feed and return setup? even on a brand new turbo it's possible to blow the seals if there is too much pressure at the feed and if the return isn't free-flowing.
Also check your oil level, if you've got too much oil in your engine then that can blow your turbo seals as well!
