got my car tuned..question about my boost controller.
Got my turbo D finally tuned yesterday and it managed to produce around 225whp on just 9psi. However when they tried tuning the car with my hallman boost contoller even at the lowest setting my greddy 18G wanted to go well over its actuator setting..anyone know why this was happening? They ended up tuning the car without a boost controller and without touching the actuator still made 9psi. I for the life of me don't understand this, to my knowledge the greddy 18G comes with the actuator set at 5.5psi?? At the end of the day i don't mind any of this because the car made decent HP, but i'm just alittle upset that my boost controller is now useless.

Boost controller lines arent hooked up correctly. What kind of boost controller are you using? Manual or electronic? Manual controllers are typically not very accurate, just a heads up

Re: got my car tuned..question about my boost controller.
it was a manual hallman boost controller supposed to be one of the best. The only 2 things I could think of would have been that I took the turbo to paint once, but i'm 100% sure i didn't let the actuator rod spin any threads..the other thing it could have been was one of my idiot friends one day decided to see how far the boost controller **** can actually spin - guess what it can spin all the way off..so i rethreaded it back on with some thread lock and it was nice and tight again...either way the tune came out great and the car made some really good numbers on the greddy factory actuator setting, so overall i'm happy..just kind of upset that something i bought(and like the way it looks under the hood) isn't doing its job.

lol.. if thats all thats making you upset.. just wait..
Boosted hondas do have gremlins come out later on.. every set up has some small issue pop up here and there..
I would look towards a PWM electric unit.. then u can boost by gear.

I only used the thread locker cuz I was told to by hallman, I mean ultimately I'm cool with the way things are running cuz I have the boost cut at 10.9 on the hondata..just slightly bothered by not having a boost controller, its an essential part to a turbo setup in my eyes.

What version hondata do you have? Could just buy an electronic boost controller and be done with it. MBC's suck and are very inaccurate most of the time. Look up HDi boost controllers, they are cheap compared to other ectronic controllers and work very well. That way you can safely run 2 maps and it will actually hit the correct boost level.

Your best bet is to buy this electronic controller, then instead of using the boost control solenoid it comes with, i believe its a GM solenoid, get a hondata boost solenoid. Wires in the same. GM solenoids tend to go bad often.

Are you getting some boost creep? If the actuator is set at 5.5 psi, but you're tuned to 9psi, that seems to reason that there is something more than just the boost controller causing problems. I would look at the simple solutions as others have mentioned...if the problem persists, then look into the creep issue. Which manifold are you running?

i took the turbo apart to paint it one time..but i'm almost positive i made sure that the actuator rod wasn't allowed to spin any threads.
