Good turbo for GSR for up to 550hp
I am trying to piece together a turbo setup for my GSR eh6. I am looking to have 450-550 hp. I was wondering what peoples opinions of a turbo I found:
GARRETT T04E TURBO
COMPRESSOR HOUSING: A/R60
COMPRESSOR WHEEL:57MM INDUCER 82MM EXDUCER
CHRA: OIL COOLED BALL BEARING
EXHAUST HOUSING: T3 A/R 84 DIVIDED
EXHAUST WHEEL: "O"
Twin Scroll
As this is my first FI setup. I was wondering what capabilities this turbo has?

You need to post this in the FI forums. TheShodan will be able to help you out.
My opinion is you need to know what kind of flow you need to get to 500-ish hp and find that turbo. That's something YOU should have already learned. How did you even pick this turbo without knowing that?
You plan on running this on pump gas?

I realized that after I posted here. I am afraid I have no idea about flow yet. I buy stuff that I can turn around and make a few bucks off and I found this turbo at a reasonable price. I just did my first swap and I am trying to learn more about FI over the next year while I slowly piece it together. I need to find a FI for dummies book!!!

I meant that more in a joking manor due to my noobness with FI
I need to just find some locals to have a more hands on learning experience. I am reading the FI FAQ and I think I am even more confused then before.

Read the turbo link in my sig. Then go BACK to the FI forum and find a build thread that is putting down the power output you're looking for. Find a few of them and compare. Model your build off of that. Re-read the FAQs and I bet it will start to make sense.
But first ask yourself where you're getting these numbers from as a horsepower goal.
You building a drag/track car?
You don't seriously think you can drive that on the street do you?
Prepare for traction issues.

I plan on this being for the strip with the occasional car meet/show. I have 3 other cars to dd.
I'm really trying to build a Honda capable of beating my dads 600 hp 69 camaro and just **** him off with a $15,000 civic against his 140k camaro. That is how I came up with number. Family rivalry
I designed the interior and hand my hand in every thing else
427 all aluminum small block. Your looking at double my budget for my whole civic.

Re: Good turbo for GSR for up to 550hp
Thanks and sorry about that. I have always thought a gt3582r would be a wise choice for the power I want. After reading a couple post I remembered that thing called racing fuel. I didn't realize I could get about 400ish on pump and switch to racing fuel and get what I am looking for. That would be perfect for when I did go to a meet. I have already decide on Neptune for tuner.

Im running the 35r with .82 T3, boost threshold on a 1.6 is 3,800, if you have the extera money go with the gtx3582r... more power and you wont sacrifice any bottom end

Re: Good turbo for GSR for up to 550hp
go with a gt35r, with a good tune you should be able to drive it at about 500whp on pump if you build the bottom end. Or like someone else said, gtx35r for a little quicker spool and more top end if you want to run race gas. Probably capable of close to 700whp on race gas.

Re: Good turbo for GSR for up to 550hp
thanks for all the input guys I will check out all that's been mentioned.
Hey Tim, nice to see a local!!
OK I figured a little more input on my plans. I plan on re-sleeving the block probably to 2.0, def building the bottom end( I want this thing to be as bullet proof as possible), 3" exhaust, 3" IC piping, Meth kit after motor has a few miles on it with low boost and re tune for high boost. Fully built head, over sized valves and port match intake n exhaust.
I am thinking I would prefer a twin scroll turbo for quicker response. I have not looked yet but I am guessing that might what the gtx series are. I will look tonight. I just got swamped with work
I don't plan on cutting any corners with this and any recommendations are greatly appreciated
Thanks again

Unless your building the head for fun, there is really no need for oversized valves or even aftermarket valves for that matter.

Re: Good turbo for GSR for up to 550hp
A T4 "divided housing" (Not a twin scroll as you're led to believe) will NOT respond any more quickly for your 550whp goal... (Yes, even on a built 2.0 Litre).. Stay with a T3 in a .63A/R with a larger exhaust wheel to make what you need happen. At 550whp, you're going to reach maximum boost pressure under 20psi by about 4800-5500rpms, unless you're using nitrous.. So don't worry about the "spool" argument. you'll be light enough to take out your Supra/Mustang/Evo people in the smaller housing without all the mess.
