A good forged piston manufacture for daily driving?
I am going to be building a Hi compression D16Y8 for a 100 shot of the sqeeze, and will be needing a high silicon forged piston.
I want it to be High silicon because its going to be a daily driver, while only spraying at the track.
I was thinking about SRP, but are there any others that you guys would reccomend for a daily driver?

I think its funny when you guys talk about piston companies and which brand to buy. I work for Wiseco and let me tell you something. Wiseco and JE were both bought out in 1998 by Dover corp and are now partners. We forge pistons for JE for domestic and sport compact that say SRP in the dome. In essense, you're buying Wiseco's forgings/JE machines them for "SRP." Just thought I'd let you guys know.

We use Arias pistons in all of our single cam cars.
All of the fast single cams use Arias. Andrew Yang Jason Whitfield Sav leone Bisi and the list goes on. I keep a list of all these guys because one day I will have the fastist single cam. LOL

I have srp and no problems really. Over a year and a half boosted. I drove it daily for most of that. I noticed they slapped a little in the winter but other than that not a problem.

weather it is a weisco PFP or a APP forging the 4032 matterial is all the same. It is the piston company and the engineer who make the best parts.

Piston slap. This is when the piston to wall clearance is to large and the piston rocks in the cylinder. causing a ticking noise called slap.

This doesnt sound healthy for a motor.....can you elaborate more on this

Because of their low silicon content, forged pistons expand more when hot and require more wall clearance. The added wall clearance often results in slap when the engine is cold.
Bryson, I have Endyn pistons in my car (7k on the motor so far...37mpg! ) with wall clearance around .0028". They are a bit noisy when it is cold, but not too bad. I know Rocket is not a big fan of SRP. He said he'd rather run stock than SRP. Maybe you can chase him down and get some input.

Re: (snoochtodanooch)
-If you have your machine work done by a high quality machine shop, and have your engine built by a quality experienced engine builder who works with the machinest to run the correct clearances and tolerances you should not experience piston slap. Experience, skill and the use of quality parts are everything. You get what you pay for. (I don't care how often you hear that, it's true.
-I have Darton MID sleeves, crower rods, and JE pistons and I have absolutely no noise..............cold or warm it doesn't matter.
my 2 cents

Thanks for the responses guys.
I'm also toying with the idea of just using stock PM7s and just running N/A...but a direct port setup is soooo appealing.

So you're saying that Wiseco, JE, and SRP are all the same? Hmm...interesting.

SRP was always JE's econo line, I dont know a thing about Wiseco though.

That's old news, man. Where you been?
I had my piston-to-wall clearance set to .0025" with my Endyn (Wiseco) pistons. I only hear the piston slap when it is cold outside (less than 40 deg F) and when the engine is stone cold (first thing in the morning).

If you're building an engine for forced induction extra piston-to-cylinder wall clearance is usually required depending on the piston manufacturer. The SRP's I used required the additional clearance for FI. I built it exactly to the specs listed and the engine is slighty louder than stock.

I also have Endyn's and it is loud for the first minute or so but once he is in the engine, it is pretty quiet. Not stock quiet but you can hear the noise go away as it warms up.

Whats weird is, I always hear people saying that Arias are one of the loudest slapping pistons since they normally reccomend a large gap.
However, with my B18C mine are quiet as hell! I can only hear them for quite literally the first coulple seconds of start up, and then it smooths out.

go CP!!!
i daily drive my CP equiped y8 and have put alot of miles on it. there is a tiny amount of slap when the car is cold , but runs like stock when it warms.

It's all about the clearances used.
