Hang in there man you'll be just fine, but yeah put the heater back in the car lol.
Yes I have to get that heater worked out. Its strictly my fun car and I have only had this shell since spring, I would say one fun day of driving it on a nice crisp winter day would have me rushing to fix it.

It's not just about cold whether outside. The heater actually acts as a heat dissipating apparatus that helps the water cool more efficiently as well as keep condensation from forming on the windscreen. Not just to warm your *** on a cold day.

I knew it helped but I had no idea it was actually important. I do know that it flows through the heater core at least.

Some light at the end of the tunnel!

Look how Purdy this is!

Nice little Treadstone IC

Got some bad/good news to follow soon. The build continues but it has taken a sudden, different path.....

well I was waiting to have pictures during the disassembly but, I asked my cousin to run the car for me at the next meet. He is a well mannered, good driving car enthusiast like myself but, unfortunately he was not used to the car. An accidental miss shift from 3rd to 2nd at around 8500 rpms was enough to grenade my 100% healthy k20a2. the 4th cyl rod went through the block in two places and the connecting rod cap is sticking through the oil pan, wedged by the windage tray.

You can imagine the extra strain this has put on the build but I'm not stopping. I have already bought a k24a4 short block so next thing to do is pull the k20 head and see how damaged it is. Regardless I now plan to run a built k24 bottom end with s2k oil pump and forged internals. It's added more and more time to my build but I am hoping to assemble a new engine by late spring.

I can't even imagine how shitty you must have been/how stupid your buddy felt when that happened. Woof.

K24 sounds like a solid plan though. Good luck

I always assumed a cpu/rev limiter would never be able to keep up with the drive train during a 3-2 shift like that. Even if there was a rev limiter that somehow could...the car is in gear...revs are going where they're going depending on the gear set/FD right? How could it be any different?

oops yea I guess that will do it...... didnt quite get the part about it actually putting it into second. yep rev limiter not gonna be able to stop the physical force of the transmission in this case

Damn sorry to hear that man. Well at least you're going to built it better with more displacement this time around. Even if it takes longer the final outcome will be worth it. You've had reason after reason to give up, but hang in there man. You'll be happy you did one day.

The car has a kpro ecu with a rev limit of 8600rpm not that the limiter would have stopped this lol. Had I have been driving I feel I may have been able to save it before the clutch was fully engaged, but who is to say honestly. And truthfully I was stunned but it took me almost a week to process what had happened. I couldn't honestly get mad though being that I asked him to drive it for me. Sorry for the delays in the build guys but right now I have a block ready for tear down so that's soon to be in the works. I may even tear that k20 apart and get some juicy photos. As much as I hate it happened I am curious as to what parts let go and what stayed together.

Set back after set back, but I am still alive and healthy, still have a great job, and still have a roof over my head. I am blessed.

Shodan buddy the last time my luck was down you really raised my spirits so I thank you for that!

Update: as much as I'd love to spend the winter building a K24 frank, I just found a decent miles (128K) k20a2 long block for 1200 bucks. The only con at this point is its at a salvage yard but its still in the RSX type S and showing milage on the dash. I'll be calling Monday to ask what I need to be able to turn the engine over for a comp test. If all goes well I will pick it up Tuesday and if at all possible my Honda will be running again by Thursday. Its still a gamble in a wrecked car but hey, luck has to turn around at some point!

If this k20 is ok are you going to put your turbo on it? I know you'll be glad to be running again.

K24 longblock on HMO $1600 + shipping comes with warranty, and you can sell the extra parts you dont need just a thought might be worth it

I have looked into HMO's k24 and seriously considered it, but the fact remains that I would be at the least doing a k20a2 head and s2k oil pump had I went that route. Those two mods would pretty much lead me to needing a built and properly balanced bottom end so I could rev this baby to the moon.

When I began this turbo build the whole idea was a quick spooling, stock other than valve springs k20a2 car that was pushing the envelope at around 500hp. I have D-Rob from Innovative Motorworks doing the tune and I am confident it could have handled this HP level for a while given I treat it right. Now hypothetically if this build had been completed and later down the road the engine failed I would have been content knowing this was a stock engine however, the fact that "I" didn't blow the engine and it happened as a N/A platform was devastating.

But in all reality if said k20a2 long block is what it needs to be then I would consider it a 1200 dollar set back not including the trip to get it. Hopefully the build can continue on as originally planned.

I will say this, if I build an engine in the end....It will be a k24 frank and I already have the short block for the build so its not exactly out of the question. I will try and update the direction I am taking on Monday or Tuesday. I still need to take out the time to tear the engine down with some juicy pics but I had to change the steering rack in my trans am on my days off so that was a task. Yea I know what your thinking...This guy has American muscle and a rice rocket? haha my friends find it hilarious!

I am finally getting back on track, with Christmas out of the way and tax season coming up. I'm killing overtime at work and crunching down on some budgeting. I think I am going to order my engine through HMO because my first experience was so good. what lbs valve springs would someone recommend for an otherwise stock engine?

Stock is stock. So if the engine hasn't been beat up, stick with that for now. So, this is just full stock block correct?

Yes I am looking to buy another stock k20a2 through HMO.. I know D rob told me way back when I was buying parts to add a set of valve springs and a -6an fuel line. He seemed confident that with e85 I may be able to break into the 500's but now I have found e98 and e85 locally. I'm going to get in touch with D-Rob and get his opinion on which to run considering I already have most of my fuel setup.

Well, for Ethanol-based fuel, absolutely. reinforcing certain stock parts is a better way to go. The TR3030R can easily reach 500whp for either engine, and hopefully you've kept all of your original boost components for your stock and modified engine blocks.
