Default Goldiewang's K20A Swapped TR3030R "VelociRaptor" Project Build

And finally it is time to start this build thread!

So far I have ordered practically all the main components other than fuel components which I will have to speak to D-Rob about before ordering but as of now the parts list that has been ordered is as follows!

Turbo setup:

Speed Trapp Consulting's VelociRaptor TR3030r with a Tial GT .63a/r with a V-band dump

Kmod Performance Hot pipe kit with 3" V-band down pipe

Turbosmart Hypergate 45 wastegate

Kmod Performance Intercooler piping and couplers

Treadstone 20x12.25x3.5 verticle intercooler

Still trying to find a used Tial 50mm BOV

Fuel:
Walbro 450 in tank

Deatschwerks 1300cc

And to be ordered SS lines and in line filter

Supporting mods:

Competition Clutch Stage 5 sprung 4 puck

Competition Clutch UItra light Flywheel

DSS stage 2.9 axles

The dog attempting to help open the axles shipping box

Supporting electronics:

AEM Boost Gauge

AEM Air Fuel Ration Gauge

Hondata 4 bar map senson

GM Ethanol content sensor and harness

Racespec Dash harness with rocker switches

Still awaiting the arrival of everything I ordered from Kmod. When its all in I will update

Aiming to hit 500whp on e85 tuned by D-Rob at Innovation Motor Works.

Big thanks to Shodan for helping me with all the specifics. I've done a turbo build before but this is the first one I have pieced together myself so this should be a good thread to follow. And if anyone see's me doing something wrong, just say it I have thick skin lol.

Does anyone know if running a -6 an SS line from the walbro to my hybrid racing fuel rail would be sufficient size for a 500whp goal? Google wouldn't tell me

Yes, the -6 AN sized line will work just fine at that power level... even when running E85.

Still awaiting all parts from Kmod, I spoke with marquis a couple days back and he said the manifold is all my order is waiting on and it should be done and shipped to me within the following week.

Excited to see how that turbo performs on a K series. Should be a torque monster!

I sure hope so. I am really hoping for early spool and a huge power band all the way through 8400ish rpms. I will keep everyone posted as the build moves forward!

Well I got bit in the *** and got a reckless driving ticket for excess speed. Thought I was alone on that highway at 12am but turns out I wasn't lol. Its my fault and I get that so I'm just going to move on and deal with it. From this point forward I no longer want a street monster so I feel this car will be an all out track car. Kinda sucks cuz now I am wishing I have built it more for higher HP but in years to come this can still be done.

In lighter news I received a few items from KMOD still no hot pipes, IC or charge pipes but they are supposed to be in route hopefully!

Don't let that discourage you. Funny enough, those of us that made over 500 whp on a regular basis with a torque monster, actually drive with more restraint than with 250whp.. Plus, your setup is made for circuit track, not done drag strip..

Have faith.. We all get tickets like that sooner or later

I cannot lie buddy I have become very discouraged. The fact is if I lost my license I would lose my job so taking a chance of a second ticket like this or worse could be a bad bad day.

And to make it all worse I don't have enough seniority at my job for at least the next 5 years to pull any days off that the local tracks use for events. So im in a predicament, If I drive it on the street whats the need for 500whp? If I can't get off work consistently for events, what good is 500whp? The thought to sell the car, and forget all the loss involved in parting out a fresh build that's not even started has crossed my mind. The problem with that is I have set this car up strickly for racing and weekend warrior stuff so no heat no ac no interior. rad fan runs off switch. So even with a nice healthy K series in it I couldn't get much out of it. Its a great car just not a street car.

Keep the heat, you'll need it at times.. Life isn't a slippery slope like that. I'll tell you this.. You can tune for 500, and barely use 400whp. That's why we have boost controllers.

Hell, I'm tuned to over 530whp.. You think I use that all the time? Sheit, most of time I'm barely over 350whp on most days.

You're really just gun shy right now after a stupid mistake, is all...

I sure hope you are right. I don't go to court until mid October so I'll probably put this on hold until then to make a decision.

Yes. Just be patient. Even if the outcome isn't great, as I stated.... you'll regret getting rid of the project now due to ... "life".... You just did something dumb, got busted, and you're freaking out from the consequences. But you'll live through it. Had a good friend of mine go to jail for 180 days due to a crappy judge in an election year, $2K in fines, 2 kids, a mortgage, and 2 jobs, but he took his medicine like any other adult, kept the project (on hold for 2 years), but came back with renewed vigor... To this day, he's still glad that he listened to me and didn't part out his project.

You're talking to a guy here who's had the same Integra since it drove off the lot in July of 1997. I still have pitfalls to this day like anyone else, but even my wife won't let me sell the car or project. I'm still holding on. Just look at these guys with 1964 Pontiac GTOs that had 2-3 layoffs in their lifetime, lost their house, pension, etc, from a divorce or other shitty situation, but kept the car. Now, they just sit pretty, and keep a collectible that generations can enjoy.

This is sooo true! And you are right about the 350whp number. it seems to be the perfect compromise on the street between power and getting traction.

And dont sweat the ticket. its just part of life's ebbs and flows. 11 years ago I got a ticket while street tuning, drove by a cop doing 105 in a 55 (ah to be in my 20s again lol). Wound up with a bunch of point, but no loss of license. Sucked at the time but now it just another story to tell.

I've been pulled over twice, once tuning my car on some back country road 88 / 50, and another racing a bike but he didnt clock us so 70/55. I have spent a BUTTLOAD of time doing pulls on the highway to tune and race. I've had some closish calls but I feel like its alot easier to get away with when the average speed of traffic is 70-80. But now that I'm getting older its just not worth it to me. Id rather do track events sparingly and have an amazing time instead of hoping you dont get caught every time you go out on the weekends.

I mean, you can always go out with friends and have them scout ahead. Also, I find long city streets with no intersections/traffic is ez pz way to have some fun for free. Either way, I understand getting in trouble with the law thing, I got absolutely fucked a year ago and it wasn't even for moving violations. Best of luck to ya man

Yeah I think we all get tickets like that lol. For me about 8 years ago I was on my cbr1000rr and rode a wheelie right past a cop going 87 in a 45 on one tire lol. I got lucky and ended up with careless driving instead of reckless, it was dropped off my record completely after I went 2 years with no other tickets. You can see from my avatar pic I used to be crazy on my bikes lol. Now I'm 31 with 2 kids and 2 mortgages so no more bikes for me. Hang in there man you'll be just fine, but yeah put the heater back in the car lol.

^^^^^^ THIS +1! but for real thanks everyone for the support. I've calmed down the last few days, came up with a way to pay for an attorney and the fines and all that could blind side, and decided not to sell it. Regretfully the build will for the most part be on hold until I get this settled but anything I can do I will update accordingly. I still did not receive the hot pipes, intercooler, or charge pipes from Kmod. Marquise stated it was all on the same tracking number and should have arrived. In another message later on he informed me that the 3 boxes that I should receive came from different warehouses? I only received 2 boxes but he stated they all share the same tracking number? Sounds fishy to me as he has pushed me off on the completion of my down pipe for well over 2 months so lets hope its even actually on the way.

If I did it all over again I would have just bought a full race manifold and made my own downpipe with my shitty welding skills.

From my own experience I DO NOT RECOMMEND KMOD!!!
