Default going turbo...which turbo to pick

im looking to boost my 98 gsr to around 230 hp for a street application. Im trying to decide on what turbo to use. Right now Im looking at a garrett t3 super 60. I wasnted something with a fast spool and decent high end power. The exact turbo Im looking at is the .60 A/R comp housing and .48 A/R turbine housing with an internal wastegate. Can any help me out on whether this is a good setup for what Im looking to get out of it. Thanks.

I have a GT28R that is good for 320whp. You have to fight to stay out of boost and it will easily meet your power goals.

Here is a link to dyno chart. This was at 10psi @ 5k rpm had wastegate issues and by redline it was down to 8.5psi.

gt28R is a bit on the pricey side. lol i was talkin to him earlier, and i think he wants to keep it on a good budget.

For 230whp I would go all motor. It would be a waste to turbo a GSR for your goals imo.

If you have the cash a gt28rs would give you what you want with very fast spool (fast spool is lame imo) and would get you up to 350whp, but if your spending that much you might as well get the gt30r which will give you about 550whp adn still have great spool (full boost before 5k and pull as high as you need, perfect powerband).

I did help you. I suggested a gt28rs for your goals (very fats spool). If that's too expensive get something non ball bearing (a big T3 or small t3/t4) and it sounds like your on a budget so one of those would work fine. I also let you know that fast spooling is lame and that you might as well go all motor. So if you want a lame setup go for it.

I never said it was going to be cheaper to go all motor. Why didn't I go all motor? Because I have a D16z6. Dude 230whp is nothing on your motor, I would be embarassed to tell people I have a turbo GSR making 230whp lol, you should be making 330whp. But like I said if that's what you want good for you lol.

no one? im not really sure what ratio the comp. should be to the exhaust...the choices I have on size are: .42 A/R and .60 A/R for the comp. and .48, .63, and .82 for the exhaust...also should I choose a 4 or 5 bolt? Thank you.

Here is a good all motor build..as for pricing, turbo charging vs all motor. Either one will run ya, and make your pockets lighter. Cheezing out on the turbo for your project is like trading in your car for gas money. The turbo is the heart of the project...get a good one and build from there...just my 2 cents.

should work fine for 250whp

I was going to mention a T3 Super 60. It seems perfect for your goals. Good luck with the build.

My T3... great turbo... as I posted in another thread: "Will spool up at around 2k, and you'll start to feel it let go at around 5-6k... you'll run about 220whp @ ~9psi with that."

230 WHP all motor...hahaha, that's funny. For the price, you can get a fully built turbo Honda, sleeved and **** with fuel and management. And then run that fully built turbo setup at 230 WHP and do 5th gear pulls from Texas to Alaska and it is still good for another 200000 miles

230WHP all motor, it's almost not possible with a 1.8L on pump, and won't be able to do that with stock cams. You will need high CR pistons, rods, machine work like P&P, etc.. You'd also need injectors, fuel and engine management, a nice intake manifold, a nice header (SMSP, Hytech, RMF, etc).

For that amount of work, reliability takes a hit, the engine has to come apart, and it will make less torque than any GT28R or so-called 'lame fast spool setup' But I know where you are coming from, because you only know what is lag when you begin to push 400+ WHP on a small 1.6 or 1.8L engine.
