Getting closer...flapper fixed need some more help please!!

Once again H-T is correct. That god-awful bar was in the way of it opening and closing...

((NOTE! That's not the picture of the newly bent bar!))

I bent it using a hammer. The pink arrows indicate which way I bent it. My concern is, I think it's going to be in the way, as you can see in my second highly detailed illustration. The pink bar represents the bar. The yellow arrows represent air being deflected off of the slanted/bent bar. Will it matter if it's deflected and goes into the other hole? It shouldn't right? Will I be losing boost? I don't think it should matter, because then I can set it a little over 6psi and in reality the motor will only see 6. What do you think?

couldnt you just remove it? I dont think it really serves a puropse.

Johnyquest 09-09-2003 11:41 AM

yeah get the peice of shit out of there, it does nothing! If it had any purpose, it's causing boost creep. GET RID OF IT

Can someone please explain to me what the purpose of the dump tube is? Isn't it all just going out of my exhaust? Why have a seperate tube there?

Re: (Boost Creep)

technically you dont "need" it. but it helps prevent boost creep and spiking. this is how it should have been done:

or just dumped to the atmosphere like this

both of those are from a DSM but it is the same thing.

Re: (2old_honda)

How would boost spike if it's going into the atmosphere? Sorry https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emhammer.gif on me...

EDIT: Also, the flapper being kept shut would explain my overboosting right?

dumping it to the atmosphere would not make you spike

sorry, i should have made that more clear. technically (for your setup) you dont need that extra pipe going back into the exhaust. it could just be a blocked off section and the gasses from the wastegate would go out the main exhaust pipe. But it would severely restrict the wastegates flow and you would it would probably spike and creep. (I hope you got that, it is kind of hard for me to explain).

yes the flapper being kept shut would make you over boost

Thanks for all the help...I'm gonna cut that 'wall' out and hope for the best https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Do you know if anyone makes a spring for an internal wastegate. I'm pretty sure it came off of a Nissan. I'd like to have a 6psi spring. The current is 7-9 (not sure...) but somehow it still hit over a bar https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emdgust.gif

DA-MAX 09-09-2003 12:31 PM

TEC(forgot the website) makes a 6 psi actuator.....cheapturbo.com also has a 7psi actuator as well for $60(thats where I got mine)

Re: (Boost Creep)

so, the exhaust and wastegate are basially sharing the space inside the flange, so if you have an external dump-tube, how is the flow directed into it??

Also, I've heard time and time again, that the dumptupe should re-introduce at least 10 inches down-stream of the turbo outlet, turbulance issues, I believe.

Shit, I wanted these answeres, LAST week, cause my exhaust appointment is at 8am!!!!!
