Gear selection thoughts....HF final drive in a ZC tranny....
With a 50 series 15" tire, a HF final in a ZC box, will theoreticaly have a top speed of 174 in 4th gear.
If I just stay with the ZC final, I will have a top speed in 5th of only 140.
I would like to only have to shift 3 times (into 4th) during the run down the 1320.
I am going to be shooting my ZC for 400+hp, and because of the D's geometry, the torque will most likely be around that #. It is my thinking, that it will be better to have gearing that will be better suited for the Low Rev limit, high torque motor, then having a tranny that will just make me shift more often.
The ZC gears will keep the engine in it's power band at each shift.
What do you think?

You're gonna run all of the ZC gears (1-5) and just use either the ZC final drive or the HF final drive?
Assuming that is the case, IMO, the HF final drive will slow you down a lot. The final drive will not change how much RPMs drop between shifts, but it will reduce how much torque is multiplied and sent to the tires.
As an example, in my shifter kart, the gearing (1-6) is fixed. Rules do not allow it to be modified. The only thing that can be changed is the "final drive" (sprocket on the rear axle). If I run a very small sprocket (necessary on a big road course), the kart will top out at around 105 mph, but will take about 6 seconds to reach 60 mph. If I run a big sprocket (necessary on the smaller tracks), the kart will top at out only about 75 mph, but I will hit 60 in under 5 seconds. Gearing is the same...only difference is the "final drive".
You may have to shift less with the HF final drive, but you will be accelerating slower in every gear.

Yeah...It was just an idea.
I came to the conclusion I will just use the ZC final. I was mainly conserned that I would hit redline in 4th going down the track. I was playing with the RPM/Speed thing on the crx-performance board, and it showed that I will actually reach around 140mph in 4th with a 24in slick and the full ZC tranny.
I don't think I will be going faster then that in the 1320, so I'm just gonna stay ZC...
