Default GE ls/vtec dowel pin location **PICS**

OK I'm in the process of building up my ls/vtec setup, b18a block, b16a head.

Ok I have the golden eagle dowel pins and an OEM P30 (b16) Headgasket, I'm pretty sure I have found the proper location, but from searching around HT people have been saying they go in a defferent way.

I have them in big side down, in the ls block, and the smaller part in the head. Now whats funny is everyone says you have to enlarge the holes on the headgasket, but it fit fine... like I mean perfect. Now the way I have it, everything fits perfect, but I didnt have to touch the headgasket. I even tried my old ls headgasket, and it also slid over the dowel pins perfectly.

Here are some pics....

you will also have to use a dremmel tool to make the holes bigger for the dowel pins unless you buy a golden eagle headgasket

I don't see why I would have problems down the road with the p30 gasket, I'm just going by this thread..

Reading more, it seems like the dowels go on the outside two exhaust head studs, small side in the block....

But.. the only purpose of the dowel pins is to align the head/block, so technically can't they go anywhere?

Hey ,have you ever thought about listening to others?

The dowel only fit at both end on the exhaust. The B16 head on both end exhaust side is open to thake the dowel and not the other holes.

Wanna try that and see, then say how it works..

Mine fit on the intake side. Thats where I put them. With a B20 gasket. I have had these dowels since when Z10 first made them so they could be a slight difference.

dowels go on the exhaust side. why did you drill it? why not just use the ls/vtec dowels?

Holy old thread ..

But, if you use the stock LS headgasket you either need to drill out the holes for stock dowel pins in the head.
Use a special Headgasket from a kit, or the dowel pins made smaller on one side.
