Gauges: Alternatives to A-Pillar: Digital

Hey guys,

I've been looking at Tegs for a bit now, and I see the aftermarket A-pillar guages frequently. I don't like the look of them and was wondering if anyone had done any alternate gauges? Here's what I was thinking of: I read somewhere that on some aftermarket ECUs like AEM's, you can get digital readouts. I was thinking of mounting a Palm or PocketPC on the dash and having the gauges read out onto the PDA. Anyone done it?

I realize that this is a rambling unclear and uninformed post. Sorry.

Ben

... sounds like a good idea in theory... but if you can read the display on a palm or pocket pc while driving... you arent going fast enough http://rely.net/~htimages/smile/emsmilep.gif j/j... sounds like a good idea... keep us updated...

My friend is thinking of doing the same thing with an in-dash TV he has, I think that would work a lot better.

It would definately add to the cool factor. An in dash TV With digital readouts would be sick. but it would be less driver tuner friendly... but then again who drives and tunes their car at the same time?? haha

HKS has had that for a few years now... the CAMP system
http://www.hksusa.com/images_products/1330.jpg

the CAMP system itself is like $325 to be able to do RPM's, speedo, and thats it i think... then for EGT its another $250, Water temp is another $200, oil pres & temp is another $200, then you have to buy the junction box to connect them all to the CAMP for another $400.

why don't u just put the guages in a diff. spot?
or get them fiberglasses molded somewhere else that u would like...i agree, i'm not a big fan of the a-pillar, but i've seen some stealth looking spots to put on the plastic parts of the car...u can get a custom fiber glass piece made the way u like...

Yup, but the r34 I saw had no gauge cluster, it was just a computer screen (probably optional). It also had g-force meter http://rely.net/~htimages/smile/emsmileo.gif
