Icon2 gasket needed between turbo and turbo manifold?

Hey guys just pulled my pte6262 off my car and there was no gasket between the turbo manifold and the turbo? Is this a common thing? Should I order a gasket or leave it as it? The flange on the turbo has a lot of black exhaust soot on it which looks to me like it would of been leaking?? Any help would be great

Normally both flanges are perfectly flat so technically you wouldn't need one, however some companies don't surface flanges after welding so they warp and over time and lots of heat cycles flanges will warp.

I run an mls or copper gasket for peace of mind.

A t3 metal gasket is a common thing. The good turbo companies include one when they ship a turbo to you. You should have had one.

^^^Hehe. I used to refuse to repair turbos that had this stuff on there. Especially the Drifter guys and their monkey-made turbos. Soon as I saw some copper gasket, I knew i was in for trouble with the rest of the internals.

These aren't even $10.. really?!? Folks are that f#$kin' lazy and cheap, nowadays?

you don't need a gasket. Torque it to the manifold correctly, and fire it up. If both surfaces are flat, it should be fine. When I first started my build I thought I needed it too. buy a gasket if youre leaking between the two.

I agree 100% , That's why I was confused to see no gasket, It's a 10$ gasket which I will order if that's better than running NO gasket.

I use that from more than fifteen years, I have never had troubles but I have already had problems with gasket of all kinds..
just to put very little of paste.

That's why you use the steel gasket.. using "all kinds" may be part of the problems. That or the flange of the turbo or manifold aren't straight. But the probability of that likelihood is rather low.

I use those gaskets in all my builds, nice part is they are 100% reusable unless damaged. They compress and deform very little when installed and torqued.

I also use Mr. Gaskets copper gaskets between the head and manifold. They are also infinitely reusable unless damaged, we use them on the SR20s in our drift cars without a single gasket failure, they also stand up under the torture of numerous repeated tear downs and manifold swaps without fail

Tial sells metal gaskets and most good companies include it and yes you need a gasket. I've never seen a turbo car run correctly without one
