Garrett turbos, O-ring'd compressor housing?

Garrett turbos, O-ring'd compressor housing?
I am used to seeing an o-ring between the backplate and the compressor housing. I just took my compressor housing off to polish it and there was no o-ring. Was this just an oversight of the manufacturer or is this normal? Turbo is a garrett t3/to4e.
