Garrett turbo warranty claim process?
I purchased a new JB turbo through a Garrett distributor 2 weeks ago, Spoolin Performance. The tuner verified I had the proper feed and return setup on the car, a Garrett distributor also provided a similar feed and return setup on the car as an example, stating -3 or -4 line with a filter would be ideal. My setup is a -3 line with an inline sintered filter and straight through drain with no kinks or bends to the pan.
Oil pressure is there, about ~30 psi at idle and about ~80 cruising.
After running for about 10 minutes and 1 low throttle pull on the dyno, the turbo seems to have locked up and won't build boost.
At this point all signs point to a factory defect/issue and I am seeking details on how to go about a warranty claim and replacing the turbo.
I cannot find any straight up contact info on Garrett's web-site and am waiting to hear back from Spoolin.
Anyone been through this process?

Re: Garrett turbo warranty claim process?
Your turbocharger must be sent to a Garrett distributor (not just Spoolin', he's only a dealer) and after their inspection, they will determine if any warranty is valid. They typically honor based upon its shipping date.

I'm still at work and couldn't talk to the tuner for an extended period of time. Will post more specific details when I can either get there or call him back.

Re: Garrett turbo warranty claim process?
Was told to ship it back to ATP for RMA, will post when I get details.
I mean it's a journal bearing turbo and had enough oil being supplied to it, don't know any other reason it would fail!

Oil contamination, oil starvation from return line, cartridge not positioned correctly, bad oil return line route causing overpressurization, etc. There are many reasons for that to occur. If they say no, or that the turbo is still usable, you'll need to check your oiling system.
On journal bearing systems, realistically, the likelihood of you getting denied for warranty is about 80%-90%

I have a sintered filter which should help with contamination in the feed line, oil pressure is good an it seemed to be flowing through the line well, the return seemed fine as well.
Guess I will have to wait and see..
