Garrett GT30 vs. 60-1 HI FI
Okay folks, I'm researching turbochargers for a custom kit on my 4th gen Prelude (H22A1).
I've done searches, but nothing has really discussed the differences between the GT30 and the 60-1 HI FI.
I'm not really looking to win dyno contests, so ultimate HP numbers aren't of much use. I'm wondering which of these will spool up quicker. From what I gather, the GT30 flows more, but does the dual ball-bearing design help it to spool quicker?
I talked to the folks at Turbonetics about a ball-bearing T3/T04E .63 A/R turbine 60-1 HI FI compressor. I'm pretty sure this thing will hit full boost by 4000-4200 RPM.
Does anyone know how long it takes the GT30 to spool on an H22? I'm looking to make a little more than 300 WHP at low boost levels (10 psi limit). I've narrowed it down to these because they can flow enough at low boost levels, and can flow tons at higher levels for track days, so the T3/T4 isn't really an option, unless I'm unaware of something.
Thanks for the help!

Re: Garrett GT30 vs. 60-1 HI FI (ar5enal)
the turbo im using on my H22 I believe would be a good choice for you. It was reccomended to me by Louis Anaya (Turbocharged SER). Its a Turbonetics T3/T04E 60 Trim, Stage 3 Turbine, .82 a/r, .60 a/r. Should flow just what you are looking for, Im hoping for around 400-450whp at 15psi...

The regular 60-1 will outflow the HI FI. They're very close, but I would still go the Regular route.
SO, a 60-1/T3 with a .83 A/R and at least stage 3 turbine. Ball bearings will give you a couple hundred RPMs quicker spool, but the rest of the exhaust is something to consider too.
I have nothing to say about the GT30 because I don't know anything about it.

Cool, thanks for the advice guys.
C-Redrum: Sounds like those are my target numbers (400@15psi ~ 300@10psi). Do you already have this up and running on your car?

If you're only shooting for 10psi, then the 60-1 isn't the best choice. It doesn't work into it's best effeciency range until atleast 15psi. If you're keeping it below that, a t3/t04e 60 trim will net you 300whp.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. I think I may go with the T3/T04E 60 trim after all. While the GT30 and 60-1 will flow high HP at low boost, they really aren't as efficient until higher psi.
Info on the GT30 can be found in this forum. Just do a search for GT30, it was discussed a while back. Looks like a sweet snail, but $$$.
