Garrett Gt2871r or GT2860rs on B18c1...
I got a 99' si and im thinking about getting the garrett gt2871r or the gt2860rs. I want to get around 280-300whp with good spool at around 3500rpms. I dont want to have to rev the motor over 4000rpm's to see power. By the way i have a b18c1 block and b16a2 head. I saw this guy was making only 263whp at 10psi with a b16 on the gt2860rs so i might be leaning toward the gt2871r, what do you guys think???

Man U FTW
Go with the GT2871r because it leaves you with room to upgrade. There was just a thread about this and the general feeling was that the GT2860r was too small for most people's goals. It worked well on the stock block, but once the engine was built, it wouldnt be able to keep up. Also, if youre just going to run it at 10psi, then theres no reason to spend the extra money on the GT-R series. A simple journal turbo would work just as well...look into a T3/T04e 50trim or GT3255b like i run...
I vote for the GT2871r from the two choices listed

I'm not just gonna run on 10psi, Whatever psi it takes to make 280-300whp. At the most 15psi, the block is built with cp pistons and eagle rods. I just want good boost response between 3,000-4,000rpms. I don't wanna have to rev the **** out of the motor to see power. I just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with those two turbos.

Yea I would definatley suggest the 2871, I have a 28rs on my setup and I wish I had a 2871, you will sacrifice a little bit of response, but it will make power more eficienly were it counts. Also if you already went with forged pistons and rods you should really have no problem making closer to 400whp with a 2871, a 2860 would never get you there. But if you just want 300whp still go with the 2871, i would be willing to bet the 2871 will pull harder on top, which is what my setup lacks.

No need for a GT2871R if you don't have to with your normal goals. But it does depend upon purpose. For heavy road racing with a nice final drive sure, but not necessary.
