Garage Door + Turbo Timer = BAD......
Well, I know many of u guys have/had this problem. I was wondering if there was a fix for it... If there isnt, I was thinking of a plan....
Well i have the Apexi turbo timer and I park in my garage and have to wait the time b4 closing the door (kinda defeats the purpose of the turbo timer)....
I was thinkin about a device that when u press, it times down 4 minutes or so and then closes the door. I dont think that it woiuld be that hard, since all you got to do is install some sort of timer that blocks the circuit when its counting down and then at the end completes the circuit to close the door...
Anyone ever done this? If so, please post how..
If not, are there any ideas on how this may work? THANKS!!

UPS trucks stop all day long, starting, stopping, and I know of several at the local center that have 1.2million miles on the original turbo.
turbo timers = waste of money.

Re: (BlackB18CTeg)
ok heres one then, waste of brain power to rig something so useless up.
just carry the grage door opener with you and if you hear the car turn off close it with the remote, or don't be lazy and close it manually after it shuts off.

goto radio shack and ask someone there, if your lucky you will find someone workin there who is an electronics major, I have before... but anyhow there are inexpensive devices that build up electricity when it first receives a charge and then it releases it once it has reached its capacity, I dont know what they are called but if you have any experince w/electricity you can install one in your doors motor coming from the signal receiver, I dont know exactly how your garage door works, but its not complicated
and what they are saying about turbo timers I dont necessarily agree with, its a good thing to have, never hurts at all, ups truck turbos and the ones we use arent completely the same, and its based on the driver too

oh and another thing it wont work on your door if your motor has a safety cut off when it detects that there was no action
like when your door hangs there has to be a safety to prevent the motor from melting

Go to radio shack and pick up one of the small tutorial handbooks on electronics projects... They have what you need in terms of how to create the timer unit, you just have to figure out how to integrate it with your garage door opener. If you have an extra garage door opener, sacrifice it for the project, sounds like fun to me

What you are going to want to do is get a spare garage door opener and a relay.
Open up the garage door opener and find the two traces that go to the button you push to open and close the door.
You will wire these up to 87 and 30 on the relay. You will want to solder the wire on to the traces on the garage door opener. Then you will want to take 85 and wire it to a constant 12v source.
You will have to find some sort of negative trigger in the turbo timer harness to wire to the 86 portion of the relay. Whether it is a power wire that shows ground with the vehicle not running, or whatever. This way when the turbo timer shuts off it will engage the relay which will then shut the garage door.
I hope this helps!

go to radio shack and get a 555 timer chip, resistors and capacitors and hook that up to a relay. By changing the caps and the resistors you can change how long it waits before it trips the relay. For more info and even schematics search on google for a 555 timer. Message me if you need more help.

Or to make it easier stop by your local DEI dealer and get a DEI pulse timer relay. Adjustable from 0-90 seconds. I used to build cheap turbo timers out of these.

i don't want to sound stupid or anything at all, but i'm really curious as to what is your problem? you mean that you don't want to close the garage door if the car is on, so you won't breathe that air? or is there another problem you have?
please explain it to me

Re: Garage Door + Turbo Timer = BAD...... (GZERO)
Get another garage door opener to keep in the house. After a few minutes, jsut push it and close the garage from inside.
Otherwise, jsut take it easy around your house, and as long as you aren't friggin REAMING your car 1/4 mile before you driveway, it should be ok jsut to turn off the car and turn off the timer and go inside.
Only time I think my turbo timer is NEEDED is if I'm feeling frisky before work, or going to a store, and I beat on the car pretty hard, squealing tire into the parking lot, and I feel like it might need 2-3 minutes cooldown before shutoff.

the project shouldnt take long..... AND YES.... I DO NOT WANT TO BREATHE in carbon monoxide... THe garage is connected to the basement, and when the door is closed, it gets inside the house....
It hsouldnt be that expensive and will be fun
I will post a tutorial or something if it works !!
