i had my FR backdoor IC modded to accept 3 inch piping, a straight and a 45 coupler worked fine

here is Barone's

Full-Race topmount/42r. this is the same Full-Race intercooler that was used on his 35r kit.
in order for the 3inch pipe to fit onto the IC, we had to put it in a vice to slightly ovalize the tube(the end tank isnt exactly 3inchs)
on the turbo outlet, i used a half of a 3.5inch v band i had here(the half with the o-ring) along with the clamp.

im thinkin about cutting off the drivers side end tank and reworkin and welding it so i can get a good angle into the intercooler

hey dave and darren, stupid question, but is the 22 x 11x 3 cooler enough for that turbo? i have been told that 700 +- is the ceiling for efficiency.

Yeah, that's really not enough intercooler to work efficiently with that turbo, but it'll "work" none the less.

To bad the sprayer can't make up for all the pressure drop!!

i dont see what you are saying ? the intercooler has less volume than a 3inch pipe ?

It's not about the volume of it compared to a 3" pipe. It's about the cross sectional area available for hot flow (height x depth). That's where pressure drop happens. I hate to use the straw analogy, but try to shove 85lbs/min of air though a straw. You can only fit so much efficiently, so you end up with more pressure at the inlet side than what makes it though the "ic" and you now have pressure drop. When you use an intercooler way past what it was designed for, it's not only the temperature increase, it's the pressure drop that you get. That's why it's always better to go taller and thicker on a core, not longer. You don't want to go too thick either, or you risk not getting enough air flow through the core, for cooling.

Technically a 24x6x2.5" core has more volume than a 3" pipe, would you use it for 800whp?

I'm almost positive this is the problem I had with a car I tuned recently. Will see with the new intercooler

Good stuff. If you remember what were the ambient temperatures? Still run the oem air intake temp sensor?
