Default Fuel System Leak from Fuel filter??? WTF??

WTF?? Is what I said. My fuel system goes a little somthing like this. Fuel tank, -10 to aeromotive a1000 pump, -10 to aeromotive inline filter w/paper filter, -10 to rail. Wel I saw a drip spot under car and it was from the filter. Then when got on the ground to look closer you could see the fuel beading up on the filter and then dripping. Finally disconnected the line to day, opened the filter and wham there it was. The ugliest filter I've ever seen before. This thing looked like it was drug through the sewer. Now this filter has been on the car for about 2800 miles now. After checking the rubber O-ring inside the cylinder of the filer to see if it had snapped, I realized that this filter must be so dirty that gas is not getting though as fast as before.
I've heard people say you should run a dual filter set-up with the a1000. One filter between the tank and the pump, one between the pump and the rail. Is this the reason my filter is though??
