Fresh built motor, cracked sleeve in week!!!!!!!!
Well i finally finished up my build about 2 weeks ago, I took it to get tuned everything went great. Car runs and drives like stock, with good AF ratio. So i took my friend for a ride I hit 1st, 2nd, once i hit 3rd car shut off, white smoke behind me. I was mad thinking after my fresh built motor(ALL DONE BY THE MACHINE SHOP I JUST PUT IT IN THE CAR)just change the HG pulled the head off to find number 2cyle with a big crack down the sleeve. I had the motor bored.weisco pistons 9:1 eagle rods...blah blah..I was only on 10psi with a t3/t4 turbo..would this be the machine shops fault im going with a bad measure ment? IM going there on thurs to talk to him i just want some insite on what you think...
Ill try to get some pics up tonight

was this done with stock sleeves or did you have the motor sleeved.
If it was the stock motor how much was it bored over? Once you bore the stock block it significantly weakens the block. Rule of thumb, try not to bore more than necessary. Stay within factory specs if you plan to run low boost, anything higher will require you to sleeve the motor with a good steel sleeve like darton

Re: (tegman23)
10psi on t3t04e are barely 300 right? stock sleeves should be enough. AND honing wont result to cracking of sleeves even if it wasnt done perfectly.
so what else is left. TUNING. or KARMA. u must have done something very bad. lol
oh well. **** happens.

also keep in mind not all blocks are cast equal. i've tuned many stock sleeve motors to 18-22lbs without a problem and I've had a couple crack cylinders at 10-12psi.
its one of those things that happens and if your confident in the tuner than most likely it was simply block failure.

PSI doesnt crack sleeves.. you coulda blew up on 2 psi.. or 25 psi... its all in the tune...
How is the head gasket? A couple local cars cracked a sleeve when their headgasket blew and put coolant in the CC

Re: (Golden Eagle)
almost the exact thing happened to my car, but i was at at 81.5mm
same piston and rod combo, doing a 1-3 pull, car was tuned by the most reputable tuner in the state/midwest area. Granted i was making 360whp its still pretty close situation. Most likely the tune was too agressive, that seems to be what happened to me.

could be timing, could just be that you had a little coreshift in the block. some of them are thinner than others and some have seen more abuse than others.

Go turn the key and see what you gas needle is reading.

lol that just makes me laugh. Too little gas is how I ended up cracking my sleeve. Was the most expensive mistake I've ever made.

me too
Ive cracked 4 blocks over the last 5 1/2 years. All because if "forgot" to keep the tank above 1/2 full.

I was making a B16a, 317whp on 12psi, I turned it down a little to try and save the motor for driving around town..LOL,which didnt seem to work..I just wasnt sure because i had it tuned by a very good shop, and couldnt see the wall splitting like this after a week, of driving the car the same way..I guess im getting my next one sleeved no questions asked

Re: (tegman23)
turning the boost down 2 psi isnt gonna save the motor..... it coulda happened to either boost level
hell, with a shitty tune, it coulda happened with a sleeved block also

dont know why this is top secret.....but for some reason he keeps avoiding to name the tuner by using "a very good tuner"
